May 12, 2004 One cannot help but notice the rise of a certain element and mindset in the world now where perfection is demanded from our leaders from a crowd which has been somewhat less than perfect in their own right. Media and political pundits make bold predictions of doom and gloom, which almost universally never come true, and they are never held accountable for their erroneous prognostication after the fact. And this same crowd is now free to critique the Bush administration from all directions for not having perfect vision and "a plan" which encompasses all possibilities in a war against vile fanatical murderous sub-humans who have no conscience of their own. Shame on Bush. Much of the media and the Democratic party made dire predictions about Afghanistan from the beginning. We'd never win there; the Russians could not hold that nation and neither could we. The mountains and horrible winter would destroy our soldier's will. We took control of the nation in a matter of weeks. The same experts then told us how mighty Saddam Hussein's army is, that we'd be sending home "tens of thousands" of body bags. There would be literally hundreds of thousands of refugees streaming across borders, struggling for their lives. If we invaded Iraq, there would be international terrorist attacks all over the globe, and even here in the U.S. in retaliation. In truth, we controlled much of Iraq in a matter of weeks, there were few refugees and even fewer body bags. Even now, with the difficulties encountered in a tough battle, the casualties do not approach the level of that predicted by the political left. Yet, this group still sits arrogantly judging Bush as if they were right all along. This perfect crowd has told us time and again how the Bush tax cuts would ruin the economy and throw us further into recession or worse. Now that there is sufficient evidence, with dropping unemployment and outstanding economic growth, indicating the tax cuts actually are working, the perfect people are griping about potential rising interest rates and I've heard nobody apologize for being wrong about tax cuts. If we lived in a world of logic and common sense, and too bad we don't, the perfect crowd would have been discredited a long time ago. These sideline reporters of the political world would have been held accountable for their numerous blunders and over-the-top statements and would be relegated to a level of respect in line with "National Enquirer" or "Star Magazine". Unfortunately, we do live in a world where the left still controls many media outlets and they will not hold their fellow left-wing prognosticators accountable. Let's hope that, individually in our minds, the rest of us do hold them responsible, especially this November. ------------ About the author: Ed Abraham is a concerned citizen living in flyover country, U.S.A., who happens to be truly disgusted by the loss of common sense in our society and is doing all he can to try to reinstall it.
