Treasonous Nitpickers
Apr 27, 2004

It is truly becoming tiresome how so many Monday morning experts among us have come out of the woodwork over the past several months to nitpick and critique the administration's decisions with regard to Iraq and the entire Middle East situation. We have a part of the world which has been at war for virtually the entire period of human existence. In the modern era, terrorists are being trained and supplied from this corner of the globe in a misguided attempt to control the behavior of anyone who does not openly buy into the fanatical ways of certain despot leaders. The U.S. has experienced a number of attacks from these people, which were all eclipsed in magnitude by the events of September 11, 2001. Our president and his administration made a judgement call that we could no longer afford the luxury of sitting back and letting the cowardly enemy bring their "justice" to us. In order to reduce the likelihood of future 9/11's, and the associated horror, we would have to chase the terrorists from their hideouts, cut their funding and eliminate regimes which supported them. Saddam Hussein was sitting in open defiance of UN imposed sanctions and resolutions, had possessed WMD's which were unaccounted for, and was committing daily atrocities which should not be tolerated in our world. In addition, Hussein's ties to the terrorist underworld could not be rationally denied.

Now that the fight has not gone perfectly (What war does?), and terrorists continue to show their true colors, killing indiscriminately in an attempt to shatter our will and make us retreat from what is right, Bush's critics use this as evidence that somehow the fight was all wrong from the beginning. This is given as an indication the situation is "crumbling," as if it was going to be easy all along. Does a tough fight mean that the cause itself is not justified? Does the battle for liberty in Iraq, and a potential beacon for freedom in the Middle East, mean nothing if we have to take casualties along the way? If we don't have some quick Hollywood-style happy ending, should we simply move on and quietly wait for the next 9/11?
