Nov 22, 2003 I don’t think that any more space needs to be given to the death of JFK. He was a very important leader, he inspired hope, and his tragic death is still felt by many Americans. Rather than eulogize the man, I want to ask what happened to his political party. Can you imagine a modern Democrat being in favor of tax cuts to limit the growth of government? Can you imagine a liberal saying that we need to go to the moon? Can you imagine the demonized Joe McCarthy being the stepfather to JFK’s son? These were all attributes of our murdered president. This was a man who inspired hope for the future. And was a real war hero, unlike the current crop of JFK wannabes. I have heard the complaints from the Democrats that they don’t believe that Bush has a plan for Iraq, for education, or for the economic growth of our country. I am more than happy to say that they are entitled to their opinions. But other than grandstanding, where are their alternative plans and are they sure their assumptions about President Bush are correct? Other than telling you how they feel, and getting teary eyed at fundraisers, they are mostly silent. More of the “paper tigers,” as Bin Laden might call them. Ironically, the most masculine voice out there isn’t even running, supposedly. Hillary Clinton showed up at the Iowa caucus and wowed the audience. In fact the event wasn’t going to even sell out for the nine frolicking ninnies until the Mrs. Clinton showed up. It had the feeling of a bunch of freshmen lifting weights and the big- necked coach came in to show them how it’s really done. It was emasculating to have this non- combatant enter the ring and show off. Aside from their personality defects, like being unable to make a stand on any issue, where do these goofballs stand on the very issues that they raise? Nobody knows. Do a Google search to examine how many times Kerry has changed his position on Iraq. Look back two years for quotes from Clarke about the great job Bush and Rice are doing and compare it to his more recent statements. What it boils down to is this: they will say whatever you want to hear to get into office. Let’s look briefly at the issues they have brought up. First, Iraq and what are we doing. We are liberating 22 million people from generations of terror. We are eliminating a “gathering threat” to the region and the world. The plan: kill those that are willing to turn the country into a police state, help build schools and hospitals, and hand it over to a solid government. The Democratic candidates have said that we need to get out of there as soon as possible. While you have Google fired up, research Cambodia and Vietnam. We dumped our support in those places and around twenty-five million people died. The mass graves in Iraq tally up to 400 thousand, so far. We are there to liberate. The Dems hate that this is a successful war with a Republican president. They will say anything to get to the big dance. President Bush set up an education budget that has the largest increases in history. He wants to offer school vouchers, and make it easier for parents to transfer their children to better rated schools. The Democratic Party, the party of the people, ignore the budget increase and says is that all? Vouchers? Why have them at all. You want to send your child to a private school, then you have to pay that tuition yourself, plus keep adding money to the till for everyone else. This fascinates me since all of the big time Democrats send their kids to private schools. If you are one of the smelly poor people that they care so deeply for, why can’t their kids go to school with your kids? If you are trapped in the inner city and the school stinks. That’s your problem. Don’t ask to move your child somewhere else. If you do it, everyone else is gonna want to do it. The Democratic Party is deeply beholden to the teacher’s unions. They are against vouchers, so the Dems are too. They want those votes. Like I said, they will say anything to get to Washington. The great death blow to the Democratic party has go to be the recent article in the New York Times that credits the current economic turnaround on the Bush tax cuts. What you heard on the news last week is more and more jobs are going overseas. What you hardly heard mentioned is the report that unemployment has started dropping and the gross domestic product grew faster that it has in the past nineteen years. You might recall that was when the Regan tax cut went into effect. In a blindingly stupid move, all of the nine dwarfs, and the one evil stepmother, want to repeal the tax cuts. In their skewed view of the world, if you want to help the economy, then you take money away from the people who might start a new business, buy a car, or take a vacation. They figure that there are some guilty white folks out there who feel badly enough about their money to want to pay penance. Outside of Hollywood, I can’t imagine anyone who wants to hear, “We are raising taxes.” The party of the people that used to inspire hope is now the sellout to the “man.” These folks want power. They want revenge for the last election. They are lying, they will make unlikely promises, and when they get the keys to the nation they will ignore you. It is as hard to imagine that JFK would be one of these modern Democrats. It is as hard as imagining Ted Kennedy being his brother. ------------ About the author: Edward Lyell is politically active in New Mexico and has been a small business owner and currently works as professional counselor.
