PAC Attack – The Defensive Backs
Feb 28, 2003

The PAC-10 will be represented by two outstanding defensive backs who are available in the upcoming NFL draft. Marcus Trufant, a 6’, 190 lb. cornerback from Washington State is generally regarded as the one of the top two corners available and is slated to go in the first round. Mel Kiper has Trufant ranked as number 12 overall in the draft, some mock draft boards have Trufant listed even higher. Trufant’s strong performances at the Senior Bowl and at the NFL Combine have moved him up the list.

Troy Polamalu of the University of Southern California is considered the top safety in the draft. Polamalu packs 215 quick pounds on a 5’10” frame and he really brings a load when he hits a receiver or running back. He should have a strong impact in the NFL. Although not slated to go quite as high as Trufant, both Polamalu and Trufant could be gone by the end of the first round.
