Small Architect Selected For Tall Towers
Feb 27, 2003

Notable architect Daniel Libeskind's design was selected to be the one used to replace the fallen World Trade Center Towers. Libeskind, standing only 5 '4" himself, has prepared a model for the site that includes a tower which will be the tallest in the world. However, Libeskind did not specifically try to set the world tower record; instead he selected a height that is symbolic - 1776 feet. Libeskind, featured in the upcoming March issue of Smithsonian, wants to call the site "Gardens of the World" because gardens are a continual affirmation of life. The spire will be an affirmation of the sky of New York, an affirmation of vitality in the face of danger" he reveals in Smithsonian. The site will include unique memorials as well, with the "Wedge of Light" and the "Park of Heroes."
