Environmental Overkill-With Apologies to Prof. Ray
June 17, 2003

Prof. Dixy Lee Ray wrote two fine books that have turned out to be prophetic with respect to the "Environmentalist Movement." "Trashing the Planet" was her first and the second was "Environmental Overkill." I highly recommend them to anyone who is interested in what's behind the modern "environmentalism" movement.

The late Professor Ray was Professor Emeritus at Washington University, was a two-time governor of Washington and was the former director of the old Atomic Energy Commission, so her scientific credentials are unassailable. She warned that "environmentalism" would one day become a pejoritive term applied to what was shaping up to be the most radical, anti-American movement since the fall of the USSR. In fact, she says that The Sierra Club, Earth First, World Wildlife Fund, PETA and other such organizations are the new hiding place of old, unreconstructed communists who desire nothing better than the destruction of capitalism and, more specifically, the United States of America. From what I've observed, she seems to be "dead-on" correct.

Matthew Stensrud, an obviously bright young man, has posted several articles here on Usless Information. His screed about "the environment" may possibly be one of the most frightening yet since it's indicative of the type of education we're giving our kids these days in the modern school system. His opening statement (paraphrased) was something like: "The environment is one of the most important things in the world." That's a ridiculous statement on its face because, as he proceeds, it assumes that humanity is apart and separate from "the environment." The fact is, we ARE part of Earth's environment--an integral part, as a matter of fact. His simplistic definition seems to be something like, "If we'd just live 'in harmony' with nature, everything would be OK." What does that MEAN?

He seems to mean that people (more especially, Western people--specifically Americans [even more specifically, Republicans]) are bent on "destroying the environment" as if we humans were even CAPABLE of doing so. The utopian vision of Earth, which he seems to adhere to, is that we all should live in tents, impacting "the environment" as little as possible, observing, but never disturbing, all the little fuzzy animals, trees and obscure weeds and bushes we find around us--never driving, defecating, eating or using electric power or (horrors) petroleum.

Most of what has come out of the so- called "environmental movement"--especially here in the United States--is little more than nonsense. Plus, it's ill-concealed nonsense, since the main thrust seems to be lowering OUR standard of living in hopes that by doing so, we'll somehow magically RAISE the standard of living in other parts of the world. It's simply more of the same "the world economy is a pie" stupidity that thinks making sure that the U.S. gets a smaller slice will benefit Zimbabwe or Sri Lanka. No thought is ever given to simply growing the SIZE of the pie, because that would mean using the Earth's resources--which are, despite what is preached by the "environmentalists", virtually untouched so far.

The "acid rain" scam has been debunked. Most people understand that their hair spray or air conditioning has little to do with any "hole in the ozone," and DDT didn't "almost wipe out" the peregrine falcon or bald eagles. "Global warming" is turning out to be another scam and Kyoto was, thankfully, recognized for what it was- -another massive attempt to redistribute the U.S.'s wealth--and trashed outright. Remember, the U.S. Senate voted NOT to ratify Kyoto by a vote of 98 to NOTHING, which means that all of the Democrats agreed with the Republican majority.
