Anti-Terrorism Legislation
June 6, 2003

There was an extensive discussion on a local talk- radio show during drive-time this evening about recent anti-terrorism legislation and whether or not it has resulted in the loss of some people's constitutional rights. During the discussion, the host, one Mike McCarvell, said something like (paraphrased)"One can only hope that this legislation, aimed at catching terrorists doesn't abuse law-abiding citizens." A statement with which I agree, by the way.

The key phrase, however, is "law-abiding citizens." Where did we get the idea that just because someone has both feet inside our borders they are entitled to the full rights and protections of our Constitution? If that's so, why would anyone bother to BECOME an American citizen? After all, the leftist Democrats believe that living in the U.S.--citizen or not-- entitles one to vote in our elections. These same people in California (long known to be the homeland of Diamond Almonds--in short, nuts) even think we should give illegal aliens--that's non- citizens who are here illegally--the right to have a driver's license, sit on juries, get government-subsidized medical care, and are entitled to all of the benefits given away in the form of assistance to the poor.

Let's try THIS for awhile:
(1) Any citizen of the U.S. is entitled to all the protections afforded by our Constitution.

(2) Any non-citizen, LEGAL alien, who's lived here for at least 5 consecutive years and who has applied for American Citizenship is entitled to all the protections afforded by our Constitution EXCEPT the right to vote.

(3) Any non-citizen, LEGAL alien, who's lived here for LESS than 5 consecutive years and who commits an illegal act, gets NO protections of our Constitution and gets deported immediately to his country of origin...period.

(4) Any non-citizen, ILLEGAL alien, no matter HOW long he/she's lived here, gets NO protections from our Constitution nor benefits of citizenship whatsoever and gets immediately deported to his country of origin--unless he's committed a felony, in which case, he serves three years minimum at hard labor in the worst of our penal system and THEN gets immediately deported. No appeals permitted.

We've simply GOT to stop giving the benefits of citizenship to anyone who happens to find himself inside our borders. Otherwise, there is NO benefit to being a citizen, native-born OR naturalized.
