Mar 30, 2004 Two weeks ago I went and saw Mel Gibsons movie The Passion of the Christ. Now I am something of a movie fan, but I was completely blown away by this movie having never seen anything like it. The movie is absolutely amazing, at least in my opinion. Snotty Euro critics deem the movie "cheesy" and some still believe that the movie is a thinly veiled cry for Christians to rise up and attack the Jews for the crucifixion. Want to know how many Jews I have beaten, threatened or in any way assaulted since viewing the Passion?(not that I attacked them before seeing the movie) Zero. Not a one. Zip. Show me one instance where the passion has led to anti semitic violence. This would be pretty hard to do since most anti semites are not Christians but Left wingers and muslims, two groups who weren't exactly lining up to see the movie. Now, I always try to be objective. In viewing this movie I did not see the Jews portrayed as greedy killers. Many supported Christ, in one scene one of the Priests opposes his trial. If Gibson wanted to make a movie for anti semites he would have made the whole thing a jewish plot, that or he would have made a film version of the Protocols of the Elders of Zion and marketed it in muslim nations. But my point is not that this is a good movie. It is that. My point isn't that charges of anti semitism were trumped up from the very beginning, they were. My point is that this movies has actually had some unforseen consequences. This movie has led to some good. A murderer confesses to a crime that he had gotten away with. The police had ruled it a suicide, and he was in the clear. Upon seeing the movie he confessed. Now a murderer is off the streets and paying for his crime. A neo nazi in Norway saw the movie and confessed to being an arson, no one was killed in either, and has renounced his neo nazi views. In short the movie led to this mans repentance. The Passion will still stir up a lot of passion, on both sides. Secuarlists will continue to hate it because they are afraid that it might actually make people believers in Christianity. Religious people will love the movie because they hope that it will make people believers in Christianity. Whether it leads to a great awakening has yet to be seen, but this movie just might bring some good in this world. ------------ Email Craig Chamberlain: craig_chamberlain@hotmail.com Tell a friend about this site! ------------ |
