Mar 22, 2004 John Kerry is promising a golden age of diplomacy. In Kerry Euro speak this means "we will never do anything without the approval of our masters in Paris." Now I suspect that Senator Kerry thinks he is diplomatic, but he probably knows little about the purpose of diplomacy. Kerrys idea of diplomacy is consensus.Everyone agreeing before anyone moves. Such a system will not be diplomacy, it will be chaos. The point of diplomacy is to secure the best outcome for your country.Gorveling before the U.N. will not do that becuase there will always be nations that want to see us fail no matter how meekly we ask permission to do anything. Diplomacy is not pacifism. Frederick the Great said " diplomacy without arms is like a symphony without instruments." The two must be in concert with one another. In Kerrys view of diplomacy we do nothing, that's his great plan. I'm sure al- qaida is drooling at the thought of a Kerry victory. The greatest Secertary of State we ever had was John Quincy Adams. Adams didn't worry consensus and a golden age. When Spain could know longer control Florida, Adams wrote a letter to the Spanish telling them to control Florida or to turn over Florida to the U.S. Spain turned over florida. That's diplomacy. Adams secured the best deal for the U.S. Would Kerrys policy be the best results for the country? If we truly wanted a golden age in diplomacy we wouldn't care what other nations thought of our foreign policy. We would tell Iran to disarm of face regime change. That would be diplomatic. Diplomacy is interactions between nation, not necessarily being polite. Kerrys diplomacy will leave us like the orphan oliver asking for more. I like the cowboy diplomacy myself. If France is offended too bad. The point of ouor diplomacy is to do what is best for us, to achieve what we want to achieve. Bush has done that. Kerry's golden age is a catastrophe waiting to happen. ------------ Email Craig Chamberlain: craig_chamberlain@hotmail.com Tell a friend about this site! ------------ |
