Mar 12, 2004 Yesterdays attacks in Spain have killed 200 and wounded over 1,000. It is heartbreaking to see innocent people the victims of deranged madmen bent on destroying civilization. The people of Spain have the right to mourn, to grieve. They are angry that something like this could happen in their country. They have the right to question who did this to them and why it happened. Was it al-qaida or was it the ETA? This is a question still under investigation, but one that the answer could have serious consequences. Europe has been seduced by the doctrine of appeasement. If you are attacked by a thug or a bully give him what he wants and hope he leaves you alone. I fear that there will be more in store for Spain. I fear that the people of Spain will choose to withdraw from a fight that can't be ignored. They will choose to come to the conclusion that the attacks on them, these vile outrages against humanity, were because they chose to stand up for civilization and fight brutality. They will see a link between Iraq and the monstrosities inflicted upon them. I fear that the resolve of a true ally might falter. The truth lies deeper in the mind of the islamofascist. Spains support for the Iraq war was certainly not the only reason that Spain was attacked by these dark age psychopaths. In the early 8th century the muslim moors invaded spain making part of the islamic empire. For over 700 years Spain was the victim of Islamic imperialism. The reconqustia was finished in 1492 when the Spaniards reclaimed their country. The muslims have been seething over it ever since. To us in the west something like that sounds insane. That someone would launch attacks based on a 500 year old grudge. The mind of the islamist goes back far however. They still refer to spain as andalusia. The name that it was known by when it was part of the muslim empire. In their mentality once something is ruled by muslims it will always be ruled by muslims. Thus everything that they conquered in the middle ages they plan to bring back into their sphere again. Spain was attacked not because they supported the war in Iraq. There are many other nations that did that and are far better targets for the islamofascists. (Britain for one) No the primal scream of bin laden and his minions and all the other ilk that espouse the same ideology is to reclaim the medieval empire and run it in accordance with sharia law. Spain was part of that empire. They see Spain not as an independent, civilized, liberal, European nation, but as a province of their empire that has been occupied by "crusaders" since 1492. Spain can choose to fight. Or it can choose to appease. To the islamists Spain belongs to them and they are not going to let up. Spain had better stay the course. Spain had better fight.
