Feb 5, 2004 Well, the Massachuttes supreme court has done it again. This time they have left no room for discussion. Gay marriage is coming whether we like it or not. Most people in Massachuttes are against gay marriage, this in a very liberal state. So what does this mean? It means that like minded judiciares will probably follow suit. Massachuttes today, California tommorrow. It has greater implications though. Everywhere gay marriage is allowed traditional marriage has suffered. Allowing homosexuals to imitate marriage does not make heterosexuals want to marry they just opt out and co haibitate with each other. The only way that Massachuttes can stop this is through a constitutional amendment, which will take years. During which time gays will be flocking to Massachuttes in droves to wed. So we have a problem how do we solve it? The pro marriage position says that gays deserve to marry like everyone else. Yet at the same time they mock people who wish to preserve the sanctity of marriage by pointing to people like Britney Spears who made a mockery of marriage with her quick marriage in Las Vegas and her quick annulment. So I would like to ask the pro gay marriage people: If marriage is such a bad institution why do you want to be a part of it so badly? The truth is most marriages aren't anything like what goes on in hollywood. True, divorce rates are high, but that is because the same people who support gay marriage created an instant gratification culture back in the 1960's telling people they could have whatever they want. It all goes to attacking the basic unit of our society, the family. The family is attacked because they want to destroy our society. Now we divorce too easily, instead of working through our problems like adults. We expect marriage to be a perpetual fairy tale, a shakespearan romance, when it is not we want out. So we bear the blame for the breakdown of marriage because of unrealistic expectations, and buying into the big lie. Now the position oppossed to gay marriage has thousands of years of human history on its side. The problem began when we came up with the notion of romantic love. For thousands of years marriage had been around to have children and raise them in a stable enviornment. Gays can't do that, a knowledge of basic biology will tell us that. So now we hold that people need to be "in love" to get married and gays want in on the action.By letting gays marry we make not just a mockery of marriage, but of the family itself. People oppossed to gay marriage(like myself) are accussed of being hatemongers, monsters, neanderthals, and all types of ridiculous things. Not allowing gays to marry is not the same as attacking them. For thousands of years gays have not been allowed to marry and yet gays managed to meet with one another. Even ancient Greece didn't allow gays to marry. How are gays hurt by not marrying? They can live together, they can work without discrimination. Why do they want to tear down an institution in which they biologically can't take part in? We need an amendment to the federal constitution to spell out what marriage is. It is very sad we need it spelled out in such a manner. But so be it. ------------ Email Craig Chamberlain: craig_chamberlain@hotmail.com Comment on this column in the forum.
