Liberals and Economics
Aug 5, 2003

Liberals just don't get it. They can't grasp a subject that most college freshman get, basic economics. I know its the dreary science, but that just makes it boring not difficult. Liberals like to talk about the economy and the market but they never give their definition of the market. In capitalism the market is nothing more than individuals making economic decisions with other people. Plain and simple right? Wrong. Not once the liberals have gotten through with it.

I live in a poor state(West Virgina). We rank at or near the bottom in every economic category, except unemployment where we are second. We are at the bottom in per capita income. Now in these conditions one would try to make the economy better, by making the market more free and open. Not in my state though, you see I live in a state where the democrats have run the state legislature since 1933, and only 2 republicans have won gubenatorial elections since 1933. So from top to bottom my state is run by liberal democrats. The Govenor, the legislature, the courts, heck even the board of education. Since the state is run by liberals they decide what economic policies will be in place. Do we have policies that make it cheaper for people to shop in our state like lower taxes? No, we tax everything and I mean everything. We tax the food you eat, the clothes you wear, anything you buy we tax. Now keep in mind most people in my state don't have much money so what wouldn't be such a serious tax in New York or California is serious here. We even tax hospital stays and your funeral. So don't get sick and die here.( as far as I know we are the only state that does that)

Now these dopes have an idea, once a year right before the start of the school year, they eliminate the sales tax on all items that can be justified for back to school purposes(clothes, shoes, computers, notebooks and the like). What happens? Sales go through the roof. You think this would be a clear message to the liberal dems. Lower Taxes! But no, messing with success they reinstitute the tax after one weekend. Causing most people to drive across state lines to buy things. Most people in my state live near the border with another state. So when it is easier to simply drive 15 minutes to a state where things aren't taxed as high you'd think that they would lower the tax to encourage shoppers to stay here.

It's not just the sales taxes that they don't get. Here we have what are called business and occupation taxes. This is a tax businessmen pay just for being in the state. Mainly small businessmen. This keeps businessmen out why set up shop here when they can set up in Ohio and reach the same customers. They set up so much red tape to open a business that anyone toying with the idea is scared away. This is liberal economics at its finest, government control. I mean after all people can't be trusted to make their own decisions. Create an environment that makes free enterprise difficult. Why because they don't trust people. They have believed that big brother knows best when it comes to your money.

In my home town there aren't many businesses. Instead of soliving that problem by making it easier for busnesses to open up they scare them away with punitive taxes and excessive regulations, and all the while the democrats scratch their heads wondering why our economy gets no better. Liberals hate business because they automatically assume that if anyone got ahead in business they got ahead by cheating and breaking laws. Liberals love to control, everthing. Its how they stay in power here. They create an underclass permanently dependant on their handouts, and scare them away from the heartless cruel conservatives who actually have thoughts in their heads.

Want to see what happens when taxes and regulations(socialism) get out of control? Look to the states that have major economic problems. West Virginia is the best example followed by such liberal paradises like Washington D.C. The states of new england come to mind as Vermont, Rhode Island etc rank near the bottom for starting businesses.

So whenever a liberal says that they have an idea on fixing the economy run. Run far and fast. If you think our economy is having trouble now, just put a Howard Dean or a Richard Gephardt in the White House and see what happens.
