I think we need to open a new front on the war on terror. We have taken out the Taliban, and removed Saddam Hussein. Now I think we need to move on Pakistan. Yes, you read that right. Pakistan.

This country has serious troubles, and we had better act fast. Islamic hardliners have a strong prescence in the parliment and control the western pashtun parts of the country. In the last two weeks there have been two attempts on Presidents Musharafs life. The President is in serious trouble, bowing to the islamofascists he has agreed to resign as head of the army and to give up most of his powers under the constitution. Musharaf came to power in 1999 in a blodless coup and promised modernization and secularzation. So far neither has happened. Its economy still remains in the third world and religious fanatics have gotten stronger.

To make it worse Pakistan is a country with nuclear weapons and it is now seen that the head of Pakistans nuclear weapons programs helped Iran develope their weapons. This is not a situation that the U.S. can tolerate: a fanatical islamic nation with nukes giving weapons to like minded nations.

Taliban sympathizers and al-qaida operatives operate freely in the western part of the country and the Pakistani military and intelligence services are filled with people who share the views of the Taliban and Bin Laden. Clearly the situation over there is dangerous.

What to do? Obviously we can't work with the Pakistani military or trust their intelligence services. We could try to strengthen Musharafs power, or we could work without him. Perhaps we could convince Pakistan to take the road that Libya has taken. I am not a military expert. But to me the best plan would be to use covert special ops in the country without the knowledge of Islamabad.(of course we are probably already doing this)

Pakistan is a nulcear nation on the brink of Islamic revolution. We had better be careful and act quickly or our problems are going to get much worse.
