It's Going To Be An Interesting Race

The Butcher of Baghdad is now behind bars, of course everyone knows that by now. Now this begs the question: What does this mean for the democrats?

The one mantra they have stuck to as proof of the failure of the war on terrorism was:where is Saddam Hussein? Of course they can just switch gears, where is Osama bin Laden? Of course if I were a democrat I would not be sleeping so well these days.

Think about it. The economy growing rapidly, the unemployment rate below 6% and is going to be lower at election time. That rules out running on an economic platform. We have freed Afghanistan and Iraq from brutal tyrannical regimes, and now Hussein is in custody. Hard to point to Bush as an incompetent commander in chief when we are winning. Oh sure, the "we went to war with for all the wrong reasons that were made up in crawford texas" arguments still exsist but they are becoming more implausible and won't get much support. Support for the war will now go up. Oh there will be the doubters of course, the hard left, Hippies who haven't figured out that the sixties are over and college kids who haven't figured out how to think for themselves. But that group alone won't win you an election, it will only make you obnoxious by pandering to them.

The situation in Iraq probably won't stabilize right off the bat but it will stabilize and with the situation improving, the iraqis taking over their country and our soldiers leaving the "bring the troops home" campaign looks like a loser too.

So the democrats are back to"I hate Bush more than the other guys, vote for me" Yeah I can't wait to watch their convention. Should be real entertaining. Note to democratic candidates, the far left might be loud, that doesn't make them numerous. So we have a growing economy a war that we are winning and a democratic frontrunner more intent on going out with a bang than a Hamas homicide bomber. No wonder republicans are confident.
