Death Of A National Party
Nov 4, 2003

Zell Miller has written a book "A National Party No More:Conscience of a Conservative Democart" I might actually be interested in reading this book. Still, I am not writing about his book but about the Democratic party in the south. I think the party is finished, and good riddance. They have never done anything to help the south. The party that was mainly a southern rights party is now gone replaced by a socialist organization that has all been eradicated in the south.

The south( the old confederacy plus Kentucky) is swinging Republican, monolithicly so. It used to be that there were no Republican senators from the south. Now there are only 9, but not for much longer. Four democratic senators are retiring and will almost certainly be replaced by members of the GOP. All southern governors used to be democrats. Last Year the democratic governors of Georgia and South Carolina were given the boot, this year it looks like the democratic governors of Misssissippi, and Kentucky will be no more. There are 135 house seats in the south, the Democrats hold just a one seat lead holding 68 house seats. This to will pass. The lines in Texas will be redrawn adding new republicans to the house.

So why this change? The south was for over a century controlled by the democrats on every level: local, state, and federal. I think it lies in the slow suicide of the democratic party. Republicans have often been charged with making a mad dash to the right wing. I disagree, the GOP may have moved rightward, but only slightly, it is the Democrats that have made a mad dash to the left lemming like to their death. Ever since William Jennings Bryant became top dog in the democratic party they began running left. The GOP has always been about individual rights, a strong military, and trying to help business so we can maintain our economy. The democrats went from being the party of southerners and farmers and small government and state rights, and became the party controlled by mafia like labor unions, enviornmental zealots, anti capitalist fanatics and anti military morons.

The democratic party left the south when the ran to the left. Hopefully Senator Miller is right and the party will no longer play a part in national politics. Perhaps they will end up like the old federalist party and be confined to one or two regions of the country. Their demise can't happen soon enough.
