U.N. Resolution, Big Deal
Oct 17, 2003

Well, the U.N. resolution passed unaminously, but will this really change anything? The Europeans have already said that they will contribute neither money nor soldiers to the effort in Iraq. Lets be honest, those that were opposed to the war still are. No one suddenly changed their minds.

The world is still divided over this. But this also proves one more thing. The U.N. is irrelevant. While approving of, or validating Iraqi reconstruction and at the same time saying you will not contribute essentially proves what many people already think. The U.N. is a glorified debating society held up by left wingers as some kind of word on moral authority.

Let's face it, the U.S. is going to bear the brunt of the costs and most of the burden of occupying Iraq. Any contribution would be minimal or worthless. Do we need 10,000 turkish soldiers in the country? Talk about making the Iraqis think imperialism has come back to them. Who else is going to contribute? Pakistan? Right, like General Musharaf has been such a big help. Somehow I don't see the Germans sending any money or soldiers to the country.

Do we want their help or more importantly do we need their help? Do we need french soldiers in Baghdad? Look at what a bang up job they are doing in the Democratic Republic of Congo and in the Ivory Coast. The mulitalteral road is often the road to hell, certainly when the U.N. is leading the charge. What do we need them for anyway. Most of the country is stabilized with all of the fighting contained to the so called sunni triangle.

Let's forget the U.N. and stay the course.
