Sept 23, 2003 So, the war on terror marches on. The Taliban are gone and so is that thug Hussein. But Iran remains. Iran has said that it is going to scale back cooperation with UN's IAEA. I don't see how that is possible. They never cooperated in the first place so there was nothing to scale back. Now call me what you want. Islamophobe, bigot, warmonger, whatever I have heard it all before and I personally don't care. But all those are simply ad homien arguments. None of these change the fact that Iran is dangerous. Anyone who believes that they aren't trying to develope nuclear weapons is from another planet, which according to Gray Davis, means you could be living in California. So here we have a country teetering on the brink and they are also trying to acquire nuclear weapons. So far the mullahs have survived. They have ruthlessly repressed the demonstrations against them. But I don't think this will last. When 70% of the country wants you out, your days are numbered. Let's not forget that there is no real democracy in Iran. That the parliment and president have no power over the mullahs. Let'ts not forget the gross human rights violations. That political dissidents are imprisoned or killed. Let's not forget that Iran sponsors, and finances terrorist groups and orders terrorist strikes. Put all of those things together with the quest for nuclear weapons and we have a second North Korea. But Iran can be stopped. North Korea has so fully repressed its people that no one dares speak against it. The Iranians are willing to face severe punishment to do so. I think we need to put the fear of God in the mullahs. They need to understand that we can't allow a terrorist nation to acquire nuclear weapons. We already allowed that to happen once, and that is going to take everything we have to solve that crisis. Now I don't think we need to invade Iran. Such a course of action would be hazardous, it would stretch our military far too thin. The mullahs are already on the brink all we need to do is push them off the edge. But we should act. If you want a true nightmare imagine an islamist regime with nuclear weapons. ------------ Email Craig Chamberlain: craig_chamberlain@hotmail.com Comment on this column in the forum.
