Sept 18, 2003 Wesley Clark is now in the Presidential race. My first reaction was: big deal. Most others were saying "wesley who?" This is a desperate attempt by a party, that over the last 30 years has been on a lemming like march to the left, to have some credibility on national security issues. He is there model general. A political animal obsessed with alliances and whos sole goal was to be promoted. Now I know that also sounds suspiciously like our current seceratary of state, especially the alliance part but this is about Clark. I love how liberals can be wrong about everything and never have to admit to it. Someone on CNN (I don't remember who) said that every general to run for president since Andrew Jackson has been a Republican. Apparently this guy never took American history. Zachary Taylor, got elected president as a Whig, Winfield Scott ran as a Whig, Winfield Scoot Hancock ran as a Democrat. If he had said every general to get ELECTED since Jackson was a Republican he would have been right. There is a reason for this. Republicans have far more credibility with people when it comes to the military and security. Leftists love military men willing to spew their propaganda as if it were fact. Richard Brookshire of National Review compared Clark to General McClellan "smart, proud, by the book, untalented, all stars and no battles" McClellan was another failed democratic hopeful for president. There is a misconception that America loves to elect Generals to the highest office in the country. This is of course not true. Yes Generals have won the presidency, but all have been war heroes elected shortly after the war that made them a hero. Clark is not a war hero. He was fighting a humanitarian war that took him 78 days to push a second rate military out of Kosovo. And he nearly botched that as well. His little bombing campaign almost started ww3.Hitting the Chinese embassy must have been an overall part of the master strategy. Anyway, I think this is a desperate play by the Democrats to change the perception that they are weak on the military. And speaking of changing perceptions the Republicans need to do that quick. The Democrats are using there 1992 playbook almost to the letter. They keep screaming recession and their loyal parrots in the media gleefuly repeat it. Never mind that the recession started in 2000 and ended in November 2001,BEFORE President Bush took office. They are simply using the Goebells tactics. Tell a lie loud enough and long enough and people will start to believe you. Signs of desperation. This will make the Democrats all the more obnoxious, but all the more satisfying to watch them go down in flames in 2004. ------------ Email Craig Chamberlain: craig_chamberlain@hotmail.com Comment on this column in the forum.
