Aug 30, 2003 The middle east has been a problem for American foreign policy for quite some time now. Our best minds have worked on the situation over in that region and come up with nothing. I am not just talking about the Israeli and Palestinian conflict. I am talking about the whole region. We have made the wrong allies in the area. FDR forged an alliance with a medieval theocracy that is almost as brutal to its people as Iraq was. I am talking about Saudi Arabia. Welcome to the seventh century. The Saudi family has done everything it can to undermine us in the region. It is Saudi financed Wahhabi clerics that urge foreign fighters to wage jihad against coalition forces in Iraq. It is Saudi Arabia that presents itself to the world as a moderate stable influence in the middle east and then in private does everything it can to help those same fanatics. It raises money for suicide bombers families in the west bank and the Gaza strip. Saudis are overwhelmingly anti american. 15 of the 19 highjackers were of Saudi orgin. Let's get rid of our relationship with the Saudis. Another "friend" is Egypt. Another overwhelmingly and vociferoulsy anti American nation. We subsidize the Mubarak dictatorship with billions of dollars every year and get nothing for our investment. If Egypt were a stock we would have dumped them a long time ago. The clerics in Egypt are hate filled dark age theocrats and government employees. They subsidize terrorist rhetoric, and subsequently many Egyptians are involved with or sympathetic to terrorism. The Egyptians have taken the side of any faction in the Israeli Palestinian conflict that is opposed to peace. Groups like Hamas, Islamic Jihad have a friend in Cairo. How else do our "moderate friends" help us? It should be noted that the now infamous Fedayeem Saddam is composed almost entirely of foreigners. Mostly Saudis, Egyptians, and Palestinans. This group works actively to kill American soldiers in Iraq. This is the voice of moderation and friendship. Another fiend we support is that thug and so- called Prime Minister Abbas in the Palestinian territories. This man is not only a puppet to Arafat but just as thuggish. He is a holocaust denier and a man who only wants a cease fire long enough so that the terrorist organizations can reload rearm and refill its ranks. With friends like these do we need to worry about our enemies in the region? Maybe its time we put the Saudis, the Egyptians and the Palestinians on the same list that we have the North Koreans and the Iranians on. ------------ Email Craig Chamberlain: craig_chamberlain@hotmail.com Comment on this column in the forum.
