Aug 22, 2003 I must say that I am of two minds about the Ten Commandment monument in Alabama. Part of me, well most of me in fact, applaudes Judge Moore in his defiance of the federal bench. I for one don't believe that mentioning God in public is establishing a religion. So I personally don't believe that judge Moore is violating the first amendment, or denying the religious freedom of anyone. As a conservative I believe in the tenth amendment and like seeing the federal government taking it on the chin every now and again. The federal government is not allowed to establish a religion or prohibit the free exercise thereof. A monument bearing the ten commandments does neither. It essentially is establishing the laws on which our judicial system was founded. The federal judge has no legal basis whatsoever to make the ruling that he did. The federal government according to the first amendment is not even supposed to take on the question of religion, that is how important they considered the matter. I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. A religion hated by the left and evangelical protestants alike. For my religious beliefs I have been threatened with bodily harm, my home has been attacked, I have been accused of satan worshiping and all sorts of vile lies, regardless of the fact that I am a Christian.Despite the fact that I could feel threatened by Judge Moore I am not repeat NOT saying that I agree with the aclu and their agenada of turning the United States into an atheist nation. I think that this country has gone downhill a great deal since the forced, federalized secuarlization of the nation. All of which has been enforced on us by the courts. The leftists in this nation have an agenda, make no mistake about it. Enforced atheism is one of them. I am not in favor of an established religion and I don't believe Judge Moore is either. He and I would probably disagree on theological issues, but I agree with him that God can legally be acknowleged in this nation. If the leftist stranglehold on the judiciary continues our legislative process will continue to be bypassed by left wing activists. It is time our Judicial Branch quit acting like dictators with black robes. ------------ Email Craig Chamberlain: craig_chamberlain@hotmail.com Comment on this column in the forum.
