Feb 24, 2004 “The American people will decide between two visions of government: a government that encourages ownership and opportunity and responsibility, or a government that takes your money and makes your choices.” It seems as if President George Bush is attempting to differentiate between a Democratic- led government or his current administration to the National Governors’ Association on February 23rd in Washington, doesn’t it? While he doesn’t say which description fits what party, actions over the last 3 years make it crystal clear to the rational mind that a Democratic–led administration will be the government that encourages ownership and opportunity and responsibility; and four more years of a disastrous administration would comprise a government that takes your money and makes your choices. Under this Republican regime we’ve seen the largest increase in governmental control in decades, according to Bush’s own Department of Treasury (http://www.publicdebt.treas.gov/opd/opdpenny.htm) . Bush is advocating a mandate to tell you who to marry (http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2004/02/20040224-2.html), and has dictated how to educate our children without funding (http://www.nea.org/esea/leftbehind.html). Oh, and by the way, you will be at the mercy of rapacious drug companies when you become dependant on Medicare, thanks to Bush’s edict on health insurance for the elderly (http://www.aei.org/news/newsID.17782/news_detail.asp). Our Democratic candidates are advocating fair trade, not free trade; plans to pursue a foreign policy lead not by tanks and troops but by diplomacy and REAL reforms in education and Medicare. Don’t expect a Democratic-led government to sneak and peek in your homes to find out who you’re married to, or what library books you’ve checked out. It seems as if the choice is clear for Americans who can see through the smoke and mirrors erected around a Bush-Cheney White House. The choice is clear in not selecting so-called “compassionate conservatism”, but to embrace the ideals of a party whose leader penned the words: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.--That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, --That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government”. These words freed this country from a tyrannical George over two hundred years ago.
