Dealing Out A Dirty Deck
Apr 22, 2003

Falling like a house of cards, key players in Saddam Hussein’s regime are quietly and effectively being collected.

No royal flush of figures has yet been captured, but depending on your game, coalition forces smoked out the queen of spades, Muhammad Hamza al-Zubaydi, thanks to Iraqi opposition forces.

Two pairs of thugs have been apprehended, Samir Abd al-Aziz al-Najim and Abd al-Khaliq Abd al- Gafar are your pair of fours, while Watban Ibrahim Hasan al-Tikriti and Barzan Ibrahim Hasan al-Tikriti comprise your pair of fives. I reckon they’re marginally higher due to the dubious distinction of being the ace of spades’ half-brothers. Oh, that would be Saddam Husayn al-Tikriti, the former president-slash-dictator- slash-monster of Iraq.

If you prefer to work on a straight, then consider the captures of Lieutenant General Amer al-Saadi, Hikmat Mizban Ibrahim al-Azzawi and Jamal Mustafa Abdallah Sultan al-Tikriti. The last is, of course, related to Saddam and was head of something called the Tribal Affairs Office…talk about nepotism in the land of despotism.

I’m sure the importance of the regime figures somehow equates to their card rank, but, really— how the heck did the depraved sons of Saddam afford ace status? Shouldn’t they have been deuces? Or are we playing blackjack, where they’re only worth one point, under certain circumstances?

Hmmm…

God Bless America.
