Wake Up, Uh-mair-ee-kuh!
May 29, 2004

As the famous Earl Pitts says, "Wake Up, Uh-mair- ee-kuh!"

9/11 was a wakeup call to America, for sure, but it seems that some punched the snooze-alarm button and have gone back to sleep. Part of the explanation may be that we, lead by President Bush, have succeeded too well. No further attacks here on our soil, unless you count refinery explosions, train derailments, and other such incidents as possible terrorist attacks. (They may well be, designed to disrupt our economy. Terrorists are smart enough to know that it is our economy, the largest in the world, which allows us to fight them effectively, and they may be sabotaging it stealthily.) And we drove through Iraq like the proverbial hot knife through butter, taking the country in a few weeks with minimal casualties. Even those casualties sustained after the Iraq government fell have been minimal when compared to other wars.

But the virulently anti-Bush media, along with repeated lies from various Democrats, and with the help of a few not-so-swift and not-so-moral and not-so-well-led troops with digital cameras, and with the fading of the 9/11 memories, the American citizens may be falling back into complacent sleep.

"Have you forgotten When those towers fell, We had neighbors still inside Going through a living hell..." --Darryl Worley

So. There are still terrorists out there who want to kill us, since we are the symbols to the rest of the world of democracy, tolerance, religious freedom--freedom of all sorts. Since France and Germany and Russia have shown themselves to be corrupt and amenable to bribes, and since Spain has shown itself pusillanimous and subject to swaying by bombs, it is only America which stands in the way of these people. Even in Great Britain, which should well recall the dangers of Chamberlainian appeasement, a large percentage of the population is against taking on the nexus of terrorism, rogue nations, and WMD which makes the world so dangerous now.

"The big dog will fight When you rattle his cage..." --Toby Keith

Yes, the terrorists rattled the cage and we took out the Taliban in Afghanistan and now women are free to go to school, and we took out Saddam and Iraq is coming along nicely. Really it is. Don't be fooled by the constant drumbeat of negativity from the major media. They have a visceral hatred of Bush which causes them to obsessively report all bad news and to bury the good news even more than they do in normal non- election years. The June 30th turnover will go better than expected, and the Iraqi people, most of whom are fairly well educated and decent, will start taking on the task of reining in al- Sadr and the rest of the bad guys. Things have already quieted down markedly, or haven't you noticed? There may still be attempts at disruption by the terrorists, but they are losing, and they know it, and they, like Democrats, are becoming desperate.

But there is still reason for concern. We could have, almost at any time, won the war in Vietnam if we had not been hampered by micromanaging politicians and by the anti-war rhetoric of the far left in America and in the media.

And we have a clear victory and endpoint in sight in Iraq, despite the fanatical cries of the loon heard wafting across the lake, "No plan, no exit strategy, no evidence, no no no no no." In fact, though the plans weren't perfect (no plans ever are in war), they worked out pretty well, were modified when necessary (don't you admire flexibility?) and the goals have been clearly spelled out and a timetable set for a long, long time.

A recent British newscast: "Regardless of what one thinks of Mr. Bush's politics, you can count on him to do exactly what he says he will do without wavering. The same cannot be said of Mr. Kerry."

The major question remaining is whether the resolve of the American citizen and whether the education of the American citizen is up to the task of continuing the long and complicated war against the terrorists, specifically the Islamo- fascists, and against the rogue nations which support, finance, and train them?

It is all a matter of education, you see. Some people think the American people are becoming more stupid. They don't realize that half the people are always going to fall below average IQ level! But in the past, even those who were not so bright had a decent and honest education. They understood economics to a fair degree, they understood that standing up to bullies was necessary, and they were ready to do their part and make necessary sacrifices. Now, people think the economy is bad when it is booming simply because the media and the Democrats have brainwashed them. They think one can get along with terrorists the way one can get along with a pesky little sister.

Eggleston Services advertisement on AM radio in Norfolk, Virginia: Eggleston Services has helped Ron become a useful member of the community. "I like my job. I can fold towels, bath towels and hand towels, and I fold sheets, and I can work the machines. I like working the machines. Without work, there's no paycheck. And I need a paycheck now, because I just got married. And I need to put a roof over my head. And her head, too!" Donate your old car to Eggleston Services and help the mentally challenged people of our community.

See? Even the retarded fellow understands economics. I have a feeling that he would be smart enough to understand the fight against terrorism, too. After all, he knows he has to look out for his family. So, to paraphrase Christ, "The stupid you will always have with you." The question is, can you educate the stupid sufficiently so they can still make the proper choices?

If we turn away from this fight now by electing an appeaser who will dither and dally and consider nuance till doomsday, doomsday will come, for the terrorists will be emboldened. 9/11 will seem like a picnic when a nuke or a chemical or bioweapon goes off in Manhattan or Chicago, and if the terrorists get nukes (where are all those missing Soviet nukes, by the way?), the Holocaust may be looked back upon as the good old days.

We can't afford to back off from the fight now.
