A Letter to Johan
Mar 10, 2004

I try not to personalize these little pieces, but Johan's article punched a hot button.

Howdy, Johan,

I appreciate your taking the time to write and hope you do more. It will go a long way to convince Americans that Europeans are elitist, arrogant, hope for a weak America, and don't understand the war on islamic extremist terrorism.

And that will help Bush much! Keep writing.

As for specific points:

1) There is no "self" to Kerry. He just picks the poll reading of the moment that he thinks will give him the most political benefit. Sort of like Al Gore in that way. Didn't work for him, either. Neither was as good at faking bonhommie as Clinton. A "friendly Kerry" is as difficult to imagine as a vicious chpmunk. It is an oxymoron.

2) A popular president can collect much in donations. But countering that, there are some vicious, virulent, hysterically anti-Bush people out there like George Soros with a lot of money to give under the table (soft money) to organizations which will launder it and use it to attack Bush with lies, lies, lies. What happened to discussing the issues? When one discusses Kerry's voting record, a record of 19 years in the Senate, it is characterized by the Democrats as personal attacks? How hypocritical! How despicable! How much like a den of weasels! You wish to associate with these jerks?

3) Bush is not a fluent speaker. Minor grammatical or pronunciation mistakes are not what a reasonable candidate would focus on. It is a tactic for the desperate who have no substantive issue. If you mean

4) Yeah, the USA will continue fighting socialism, etc. We don't want an 11% unemployment rate such as Germany's. You will note that there are a heck of a lot more feet coming over the border, heading INTO the USA, than any other country around. Some of them are even legal! How many people are sailing makeshift rafts across the ocean to get to France?

5) Refer to the first paragraph. An endorsement from Jacques Chirac will be at least as valuable as an endorsement from Al Gore was to Howard Dean. See if you can get Al Gore to endorse Kerry while you are at it.

Sincerely,

Brooks A. Mick, M.D.
