Nov 3, 2003 It gives me no great pleasure to say this, but throughout recent political history the American citizens who attach themselves to the cause of our enemies are liberals, specifically liberal Democrats. During the period immediately after WW2, the US government was infiltrated heavily with Soviet agents. This was pointed out by Joseph McCarthy, and he was vilified then and since by the left for daring to expose their perfidy. Alger Hiss, Harry Dexter White, Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, and many others were said to be Soviet agents and spies, and predictably the Democrats leaped to their defense. Dean Acheson defended Hiss, Roosevelt chose White to be an advisor at Yalta, where he abandoned Poland to the Soviet bloc led by Josef Stalin, one of the two greatest mass murderers in history. Roosevelt continued to cozy up to Stalin, frequently referring to him as "Uncle Joe." The Rosenbergs remained, for 40 years, a cause celebre among leftists, much as cop killer Mumia Abu-Jamal is beloved of the Hollywood left wing today. Unfortunately for the left, in 1995 some decoded Soviet messages were released and these proved, beyond a doubt, that the government had been heavily infested with Soviet agents, among which were the Rosenbergs, Hiss, White, and many others. The decrypting effort was code- named "The Venona Project." http://www.nsa.gov/docs/venona/ As time has passed, other information including KGB files have been released. These are thoroughly discussed in the book, "The Haunted Wood," by Allen Weinstein and Alexander Vassiliev, where even more Soviet agents of the period are revealed. One Samuel Dickstein, in fact, had become a member of congress! A liberal Democrat member-- what else? Today, one can take the translations of the tapes supposedly from Osama bin Laden and compare them with the speeches of Teddy Kennedy, among others, and one would be hard-pressed to differentiate among them. It is indisputable that liberal Democrats take the side of our enemies. It is impossible to differentiate the positions of the average liberal Democrat in 1950 from those of the known paid Soviet agents! Today it is impossible to objectively differentiate the statements of Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden from those of the Democratic presidential candidates. Is this just coincidence? Or is there a consistent fatal flaw in liberal thinking which leads them to choose the anti-American position in any conflict? ------------ About the author: 62-yr-old physician, still practicing, retired from 41 years intermittent military service as of June 1, 2003.
