The Scourge of The ACLU

It seems today that you cannot read a story that doesn't involve the ACLU and their support of radical liberal causes. I read this excerpt this morning from an article discussing the ruling in Mississippi regarding the recognition of a fetus as a person:

Sondra Goldschein, state strategies attorney for the American Civil Liberties Union said she was troubled by the court's definition of a fetus as a "person."

"Anytime the fetus is recognizable as a person it chips away at the foundation of Roe," she said.

Reading that gives me the chills. Whether or not you choose to believe in abortion rights or not, this woman's words are chilling. This spokesperson (and therefore the ACLU by association) is so cold hearted its scary.

Lately they have been radical in support of removing the Boy Scouts from a park in SD, removing the Ten Commandments in Alabama, trying to prevent the CA recall election, supporting gay marriage, repealing sodomy law, protecting NAMBLA's privacy, etc. In my estimation, none of these causes represent the majority opinion of Americans so why does the ACLU take them up with such passion and vigor? Are these the civil liberties they feel are so critical to protect?

I suspect in the hallowed halls of the ACLU they have decided that they need an all out, in your face assault to counteract their devil, John Ashcroft. I would assume they are going out of their way to stick their fingers in every issue because without their guidance and moral support the country would succumb to the fiendishness of said devil. Do they ever step back and think about the impact of the issues they so adamantly support? Would a reasonable version of the annual meeting of the ACLU have the President stand up and say in front of his raucous crowd:

"Team, the basic liberties that our country was founded upon are under attack by the Attorney General. (crowd responds with customary 'heil!!'). In 2003, we are going to focus our platform on several key issues in order to keep our citizens free and peaceful and avoid the scourge of the Devilcroft. First, we will religiously pursue the removal of any mention of religion and a belief in God in this country ('heil!!'). Second, we must make sure that gays, lesbians and transgenders are protected and elevated in society. In particular, all Americans should be free to have sex with whomever and however they so choose ('heil!!'). Third, any attempt by any court to attempt to take the life of an unborn fetus into consideration as a viable human being must be stopped (heil!!). Fourth, any effort by radical religious zealots like the Boy Scouts to push their illegal, un-American Christian messages upon children shall be stopped! (HEIL!!) Fifth and sticking with children, we must support with our vigor the freedoms of NAMBLA! If men and boys want to exchange in private, voluntary love and we do not support that right, then what purpose is liberty! (Heil! Heil!). And finally my dear servants, under no cricumstances can the will of the people to recall an elected official be acknoledged. This is an assault on our system of elections and cannot be tolerated. (heil!). If we need to re- define and clarify our version of the intent of the founding fathers of our republic, we are called to do so. Dear friends, only through our vigorous and unwavering support for these liberties, can America truly be free and prosper!! (all Heil!!!)"
