Oct 3, 2003 Oh, the joys of being a parent to a pet. :) Recently, we now have two new additions to our family. While I now have a little hamster, my parents have a rat. Yes, you have read that right - a rat. For some people, just the mere thought of having a rat in the house sounds rather disgusting and dirty. But on the contrary, this little rat is just the cutest thing and she is the cleanest. For my little hamster, he is now the sweetest little guy. At first when I brought him home, it was quite questionable. Whenever I reached into his cage to take him out to play, he would literally jump out of my hands. After picking him back up, he started this little groaning/screaming thing that really freaked me out; like thinking to myself, "WHAT THE......?" The next few days were the same. The only thing that I could do at that point was just keep him fed and his water supply on high. Now, it is happier days for us all. His little groaning/screaming phase has quit, and he is now just real loving. It sure is nice now. Sometimes, he tries his darndest to get out of hands to invistigate the rest of the house now. Other times, are just with him in my arms and his scratching my chest to get up onto my shoulder (probably to see if he could jump down from that height). I am guessing that the laws of height and weight play a major factor in the animal world. Which is more than I can say about people who love to bungee jump from the most ridiculous heights. ------------ About the author: Read more from Bob Chalfant.
