Are You A "Real" Fan
Apr. 3, 2003

On March 25th, I enjoyed reading an article by Chuck Tyler concerning the comments Natalie Maines of the Dixie Chicks made a few weeks ago. I agree with him, but something is bothering me about this whole thing.

I've been a country music fan all my life, which is not a popular format here in the Northeast, but we do have quite a few fans. The comment Natalie made was in poor taste, however as an American, she has the right to say whatever she wants and that's that. That is what is great about our country. My problem is not with the comment , as much as how the fans are treating a band that has tried to crossover into the more popular, and more lucrative "pop scene"

First thing, why on Earth, when you spend $15.00 to $18.00 on a CD, would you let a disc jockey on a radio station tell you to bring it to their parking lot, and let a bulldozer run it over? You paid for it. Remember, the band, and the record companies have already made their money. Who are you hurting? Yourself that's who.

Voice your opinion about Natalie's comments, let the "Chicks" know your feelings, but if you are a true fan, you'd forgive and forget. If you enjoy country music, support it, don't jump on the "hate" bandwagon. Here is an example of fan support in the Northeast. Only a handful of country acts that come to our area to perform live can sell out the big arenas. We also had one act that couldn't sell out a high school football stadium of 6000 seats, that's sad. There are other stars that country music is not too happy with right now, but that has been going on for a long time, and it will not end anytime soon. The way I see it, if you enjoy the music, listen, if you have a problem with a star, vent, but why destroy a CD you paid for?

Some of you will disagree with me, and that's fine. I have many more examples of the strange behavior of fans and the country music industry in general, but that's another article for another time. Trust me, there is way too much to print here at this time. But in the future, I may write about it I also need to vent.

Remember, always "Support our Troops" and our President, and Pray they come home soon.
