Dec 30, 2003 Did you ever have a pet growing up? I did. This story is going out to all the readers out there that have loved a pet, and have lost thier special friend, and miss them everyday. About a year ago, we lost our beloved dog, Glendan. (Don't ask about the name) She was my constant companion for over thirteen years. We raised her from a ten week old puppy, and from the beginning, she was a fixture in our office. She went to work with us everyday. Ate lunch and dinner with us, and yes, even went on the road with us. When we lost her in 2002, we were upset, but our friend Carol sent us this poem, which I'd like to share with you now...... Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.... Author unknown... When I first read this poem, I'll admit,
I was touched by it. To this day, I have it framed, and hanging over my desk.
This very well written poem took some of the grief away. If you're not a pet
owner, you may think this article is a bit silly, but if this little poem can
help someone, I'm glad. As a Christian, I believe there is a better life after
this one, and why shouldn't our pets also have a better life after this. I
believe that my Glendan, and all the other special friend's of ours that have
passed, are enjoying themselves at Rainbow Bridge, waiting for us to come get
them, so we can all cross over to the "Promised Land" together. As for me, I
hope my Glendan has her favorite chew toy with her, because I can't find it
anywhere here.
