Curse of the Bambin-who?
Oct 13, 2003

Once again, my weekly article has been delayed yet again by more important news. Our beloved Boston Red Sox are on the verge of something, I hope.

Two weeks ago we clinched the wildcard spot to face the Oakland A's for the divisional series championship. We started out in true Red Sox fashion, we lost two games in a row. We were done. I can say that because I was there the last two times we were in the World Series. Disappointment, sadness, anger, and disgust were all present at those times, but somehow this feels different.

Speaking of Oakland, as game three started, I was listening to the broadcast, and no less than eight times did the broadcasters say, "Very few teams have ever come back and win three games in a row" Well, our boys did it. And now we are pitted against our arch rivals, the New York Yankees. And so far, it's been one heck of a series.

But, I'm not here to talk about the series in general. Some of the things the kids have been doing around here are down right stupid. Years ago when we celebrated a victory, be it the Bruins, Celtics, Patriots, or the Red Sox, we did it the old fashion way, go to a friend's house, get drunk, and pass out. No one got hurt, property wasn't damaged. It's a game people, no need to tear apart three college campus' and turn over cars in the "Fenway" Our younger fans are getting out of control. If we continue to win, I'm afraid to see what will happen next.

As for the curse of "The Bambino" I don't believe in curses, but it's a good lead story. Something has been keeping us from winning all these years, uh, decades. Could it be the ghost of "The Babe"? I don't know. And I don't care, I just want us to win.

And another thing, so far there have been three great games played between the Yankees and the Red Sox, and at the end of the sports section of all the local news channels, there they were, sitting in the stands, watching the game, laughing and cuddling, It's another curse we here in "Beantown" have to deal with. And I hope this one doesn't take eighty five years to break, it's "Ben and Jen" Could this be why we lost that game. I don't know, maybe I do believe in curses. Go Red Sox, make us proud.
