When Will The Abortion Maddness Stop?
Apr 26, 2004

The Abortion pro-choice protest happened in Washington this weekend. Over 500,000 women with lots of time on thier hands came and marched on the capitol over rights they already have. Reading about this on several news web pages, the protest is considered a major issue but I think it is time to look over history and realize that this hot button issue really is and has never been a real issue. Woman have always had the control over reproduction. We chose when, there are no accidental children in this world.

Lets look at the viking culture, after a birth the man was brought into the room where the birth happened to look at the child, if the child "looked" weak the father would take it outside for the elements to kill. In other parts of Europe, children were killed simply because a family could not support another mouth to feed. Over time people have found simple and effective ways to have population controls. China in the 20th century went as far as making it illegal to have more than one child. Girls at birth were taken to a river and drowned. But I guess this is not abortion but simple infanticied.

When did everything become societies responsibility? A person makes a choice, be it a women or man to preform the act of reproduction. That choice turns in to a responsibility. Now the choice is pro-life or pro-chioce, which to me seems to be rediculous. Every pregnancy does have the right to go to term but every woman should have the right to not carry the pregnancy. There must be a third option: an artificial womb, transfer the pregnancy to a woman who wants it, and/or cryogenic freezing of the embryo (that already exists but the rate of unfreezing is low to none) . But that lays in sci-fi not sci-fact.

Well, maybe the pro-life groups should find a away for every unwanted child to be born, maybe pay for the pregnancy. Pregnancy is expensive. Most women who have an abortion can not afford prenatal care, which could be into the thousands but they can afford a $400 dollar abortion. Plus, every child deserves a good home, where are the adoptive parents? There are so many children waiting for adoptions that are passed over for infants, and sometimes there are not enough infants to be adoptied, but the mothers are getting abortions because they can't afford prenatal care? What a loop of logic.

If every woman at that protest gave one dollar to a cause to help each other with unwanted pregnancies that would add up to over $500,000. Maybe that money could go into research that could look into more viable birthcontrol. Birthcontrol that really prevents pregnancy through our food consumption, then a woman would have to take a drug to be able to get pregnant. Once again a sci-fi thought. It is interesting what we really put our money into, protesting for right that we already have is just a waste of money. And if abortion goes illegal once again women will find a way to get rid of an unwanted pregnancy or unwanted child.

Legal or illegal women will choose what kind of life style they want, be it a life style of raising a child with out the assistance of a man, marriage or a life with out children. This issue has divided this country long enough. Its time to let people take responsibility for thier own lives and for government to govern over important issues like balancing the federal budget.
