A Hidden Insult
Sept 20, 2003

Im sticking up for all the liberals and general democrats today. Thats right. Me. A life long republican that takes great pleasure in arguing politics every chance I get. How, you ask, could I do such a thing? How could I, defend, not only a political party that has turned itself into a laughing stock in the past three decades, but made every extreme belief its main focus?

Easy.

Even though I dont believe most of what liberals out there are all about, I will give them credit for having convictions. I will honor their passion (although misguided) about trying to make the world a better place. I will even concede that my party has not always been the bastion of morality and rightful thinking. I mean thats what a two party system is all about, right? We need checks and balances in our society. Power corrupts and absolute power blah, blah, blah. You get the point. But what really got me steamed and (for a brief moment, I even felt sorry for) insulted for my fellow friends on the other side of the coin was what Bill Clinton said at a rally (in a church no less! Hmm, I thought these non-for profit organizations were supposed to stay out of politics) over the weekend in California.

He said that the recall occurring (Ninth Circuit Court not withstanding) in California was akin to recalling your teacher or your parents.

Does anyone see a problem with that? The biggest problem we, as Americans, have with liberal politicians is that they automatically assume that we need another set of parents. That we need another set of role models, and that they are the appointed ones. Never mind that we can make our own decisions about our money, home, family, education, or freedoms, they honestly believe that we are not smart enough to make any big decisions on our own. (By the way, its going to rain tomorrow, Mr. Clinton, should I wear my coat or not?)

If Bill Clinton really wanted to impress the heck out of me and most of America for that matter, he should have said that recalling Davis was akin to changing your long distance service or your plumber. Then I would have said, YES! Finally, someone out there gets it! Our public officials are elected to do a JOB. For US. One, that I may say, pays quite well. That person voted to office should be thankful, and appreciative of all the things our taxpayer money is going to get for him (or her) every day.

This recall IS our way of saying I want a better job performance out of someone that I hired. This person had his chance but as it goes in the real world, we cant make money on hoping that someone will do better. Sorry, Mr. Davis but your services are no longer needed here. Please clean out your desk and leave the office supplies alone. We will have security escort you out. Have a nice day. And if you are smart, and well behaved we might even write a reference for you in your next line of work.

Mr. Davis is NOT a teacher of mine. I have no interest in what he is selling. Nor is he a father figure or a role model I wish to emulate. (I can mess up very nicely on my own; I dont NEED a teacher for that!)

But no. Instead, he (Former President Bill Clinton) insults my friends (the democrats) with saying that we are still not smart enough to really know what we are doing but as a good parent, he (and they) will smile softly and forgive us if we just stop this silliness right now and go clean up our rooms.

He looks at you as if you were nothing but mindless drones in some Orwellian nightmare, where you are supposed to march to the beat of his drummer.

Now I know that there are probably some of you out there who would not mind this. But for those of you who are insulted (and I have to think thats the majority) even if you feel like you are betraying your party by saying so, I will speak up for you and say that liberal or conservative, republican or democrat, we are all Americans with free will, the freedom of speech, and the freedom to fire whomever we damn well please.
