Death of the Left
Sept 5, 2003

For a few seconds , just about 3 or 4 heartbeats, there was a complete silence. After 6 years in the State penitentary, on death row, silence was an alien occurence. No banging doors, or loud imates, who battled daily to see who's music would be heard. In the excution chamber for that moment, no one had anything to do. The prisoner was strapped in and the IV's were in the right arm dripping Glucose. The Doctor/Executioneer was looking at the switchboard that controlled the machine that would eventually inject the chemicals that would" humanly", bring an end to a bizarre story, and an even more unusal life. For strapped to the gurney in the Death Chamber ( or the "Big Sleep House as some of the guards were calling it) wasn't who most citizens would image being there. Instead of a low-life murderer at the end of a despicable existenence, and a life of victimizing people for their own gain and pleasure. Was the estemmed Senator, from the state of New York, Monica Brenisky. In that brief silence, the irony of the situation, did not escape her. Known to be left of Jesse Jackson, Sentator Brenisky had early in her career decided that the death penatly, would be one of the few times she would not try and bend the will of the people. Even though as in everything, the "little people" had it wrong again. She wanted to be able to point out her stance on the death penalty as an example of her being a politican of the people and tough on crime. The reality was, that due to a death pentalty case while her hubby was the govenor of Alabama of a retarded youth, she HAD to at least appear as if she was in step with him.

Her Husband, or better said, her soon to be ex-husband. She chuckled and smiled with the thought that she was finally going to be free of him. No longer joined at the hip policticaly. No more having to worry about what his hips and lips were doing, or with whom they were doing it with.

The silence was broken by a guard, clearing his throat. The sound was magnified, by the silence that had proceeded it, and caused her to jump. Although not far, considering the straps that held her down. She still wondered at who would be the witnesses on the victim side of the viewing chamber. She knew who would most likey be on the friends and the media side (although there really wasn't much difference between the two. The electronic media, had always been her "Bully Pulpit" and admirer.) The nation's leading feminists would be there, as would a varied alphabet soup of liberal organizations. The ACLU, would be there, she wondered why though. They had failed miserably in getting first her conviction for terrorist acts overturned. Then they and a slew of lawyers and admirers, had failed to get her death sentence overturned. Even with celeberities, calling in favors. It hadn't been nearly enough to sway the court. She wondered if the calm she felt at this minute was due to a strong charector, or a sense of disbelief, that this was actually happening. As with her Hubby, her legacy was very important to her. She had been assured by the faithful, that the blow she had struck, would in time be viewed for the couragous act that it was. She was at peace with herself over what she had done. She still couldn't understand how she had been convicted. Even with the jury being made up of 1 man and 11 women, and that none on the jury were elitists, like she and her political circle were. The jury had to have seen the truth. My God she had thought, didn't they realize she did it all for them. That left to their own devices, they would have kept on being fooled by the Right Wing conspirecy. She had to do what she did. Had she not thrown that bomb into the meeting of the RNP leaders, they were going to continue to control the Congress and Senate. And damnit ! maybe the Presidency again. She laid her head back down on the hard gurney, and thought back to how she of all people, could have wound up laying there and waiting for the biggest dose of Valium, she'd ever taken.........
