The Net's Powers: Pros and Cons
Sept 5, 2003

You can find almost anything that you need on the net when you put your time and effort into it. The net can help save you both time and money, while bringing along some enjoyment too! Below is a list of "pros" and "cons" of the 4 most popular things that rely on the net!

The Net's Power: Pros and Cons List(Top #4)

#1: E-mail

Pros: Sometimes it costs just a bit too much money for a short letter or a message to be mailed to a friend or relative. That's why e- mailing messages are more quick, convenient and cost-efficient. They can be sent in a matter of seconds instead of a couple of days. E-mail can also be integrated into an instant messaging program too!

Cons: You can't send someone gigantic packages over the net! Viruses, worms, and spam can sometimes slip into your e-mail account.

#2: Instant Messaging

Pros: Instant messaging can bring people closer together without costing a dime. People communicate through instant messaging through typing messages to each other in "real-time". Some instant messaging programs allow you to view the status (whether they're online or not) of all the people on your "contacts list". Webcams and microphones can be put to use for visual and audio enhancement. Video conferencing, and phone calls can also be made through instant messaging technology.

Cons: Timing's important! Two or more people have to be online at the same time for them to be able to start an online conversation. Sometimes a fast internet connection is required for the webcam and audio features.

#3: Online News

Pros: Why bother buying a newspaper when you can get all the news that you can read over the net! The good news is that you won't be wasting any newspaper! You could find news articles written in almost any language, from almost any place on the world. You can also scour through archived news articles from major newspaper sources.

Cons: Your eyes can sometimes get stressed from staring at a computer screen after a while. Sometimes only selected major news articles are published on the net.

#4: Online Games

Pros: There may come a time when your surfing on the net, looking for something to test your mild case of boredome. What do you do? You search for online games! There are THOUSANDS of games available over the net. You can compete in tournaments, show your skills, test your brains, and have fun! You can also interact with other competitors and players, while you're playing too!

Cons: The only problem with online games is that some games require a high speed connection for a problem free gaming session! Another thing is that some gaming websites require you to register some personal information, so you should keep a look out for those things(give limited personal information if that's possible). Sometimes your gaming experience could be slowed down, due to advertisements.
