Bush's Make-Believe Weapons
June 28, 2003

Today in the world, many countries face devestation and chaos everyday. One of those many countries is that of Iraq. Even after the United States led an invasion to remove Sadaam Hussein and destroy Iraq's dangerous weapons, the country still is torn with violence. Just recently, British soldiers were killed by Iraqi rebels. The United States soldiers are having no picnic either; they seem to be facing trouble everywhere. Meanwhile, President Bush is telling the world that Iraq is striving for democracy and is no longer a threat. However, recent evidence has come up that Iraq may not have been the threat Bush thought it was.

Time Magazine examines this recent evidence in its June 9, 2003 issue. According to this magazine, "eight weeks after the war's end, most of that confident itelligence has yet to pan out, and a growing number of experts think it never will." This intelligence refers to the United States intelligence that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction. As this intelligence is turning out to be useless, the United States is left looking like it wanted to invade Iraq for other reasons. The United States gave these dangerous weapons as its main reason to invade Iraq. We are basically finding out that this country has lied to the world.

When the president is questioned about his, he simply says that the weapons have not been found yet. What a convenient little story for the president. If no weapons are found, the United States just cannot find them because they are so well hidden. This cock-and-bull story cannot be believed. The invasion and "rebuilding" of Iraq may just be an attempt by President Bush to do two things: The first of which is to take the public's mind off the crippled economy and Bush's failure to make it better. The second reason is to seize control of the oil fields in Iraq.

If this invasion was just an attempt to do these things, then United States soldiers' lives have been sacrficed poorly. I love this country and I love the people who defend this country. That is why I do not want to see them used unnecessarily. The recent evidence is pretty much showing us that this invasion did not have to happen. The so- called threat that Iraq posed was not as bad as it seemed.

In the present, the United States is turning its attention to Iran. They are claiming that Iran is dangerous. The United States has NO right to do this though. They have already proved that they are not credible. The United States disregarded the United Nations and did what they wished for nothing more than personal gain. In the future, I hope that the United States stops this invading of countries. If they do not, I sincerely hope that the rest of the world recognizes the fact that President Bush lied to the world to invade Iraq and that recent evidence is showing that Iraq actually did not have these weapons. I hope some weapons are found; otherwise this country's credibility will be gone for a long time and United States soldiers' lives will have been used in vain.
