Operation Iraqi Freedom; right or wrong? Part 2
June 26, 2003

Where are the Weapons of Mass Destruction? This is a very important question. Allegations of deceit are shot like arrows at the Bush administration on a daily basis. The CIA is getting hammered from all directions. The majority of Americans, however, still believe that Operation Iraqi Freedom was justified even if the weapons are never found. The weapons are no where to be found, or are they?

As we deal with the questions and problems of post-war Iraq, nearly 2 months into the post-war era, one question seems to be being asked more than any other. Where are the weapons? Leftists, liberals, and even U.S. elected officials accuse the President of lying to the American people. The U.N. said that Iraq had approximately 2000+ gallons of anthrax solution, 5000 gallons of botulism toxin, 580 gallons of aflatoxin, 4 tons of VX nerve agent, 100-150 tons of sarin, 500-600 tons of mustard gas, and smaller amounts of many other agents. If President Bush lied to the world and the American people, knowing that these weapons were bogus, he would be impeached, his country would suffer an enormous blow on many different levels. Credibility around the world, confidence of the American people in their government, he would write a chapter of American history that the left would not choose to try to rewrite, like they have with every other chapter of American history, but would parade to the world as evidence of the vile nation that they have been saying we are for years. Not much upside for G.W. to lie is there. George Bush loves his country, or he wouldn't be leading it, and I don't believe he would do that. According to polls taken over the last several months most Americans also trust their president.

The CIA has a big bullseye on their chest these days, understandably so on some levels. Allegations that officials exaggerated intellegence to promote the war are a popular criticism, even some "unnamed" CIA employees supposedly claim this to be the case. The intellegence that said WMD's are in Iraq was not just the CIA's. Intellegence agencies of France, Great Britain, Russia, China(all 4 remaining permanent Security Council members), Germany, the U.N., and many others all believed Iraq to have WMD's and WMD programs in violation of international law. If we were wrong so was the rest of the world. Critics of the war say that Bush was going to take us to war from the very beginning, don't you think that Saddam would have picked up on that? Or that he would have at least prepared for it. "See No Evil" by Robert Baer, a retired CIA officer, chronicles how over the last 20+ years politically-correct Washington politics have destroyed the CIA. Spy satellites and eavesdropping technology have essentially replaced good, old-fashioned human intellegence. This sterilization of the CIA has left it a broken, and half-blind institution...then came 9/11. It will take longer than 2 years to fix over 25 years worth of damage but repairs ARE ongoing. The weapons are in Iraq, or Syria, or Iran, there are rumors that some may have made their way to the Biqa Valley in Lebanon, a cesspool of radical, militant islamic fundamentalists. Lets hope not, the War on Terrorism could become much deadlier real fast. They will be found.

Interestingly, the American people don't seem too concerned about the WMD's. Every recent credible poll shows that a majority of Americans believe the war was just even if the weapons are not found, maybe it was the mass graves that did it. Maybe there's one other possibility. Maybe the weapons are already found. Perhaps secrecy is essential to security and future intellegence operations at this time. Just when the detractors think they have ole G.W. cornered, he seems to pull a rabbit out of his hat. It seems that the "left" has a habit of underestimating George W. Bush. The Democrats will continue to hang themselves out to dry with the ridiculous criticism until one day...POOF..."well look what we have here". Abracadabra.
