Back to What?
June 25, 2003

Today, in almost any venue, one can hear talk of what America once was, and whether or not we can return to the 'good old days'.

First of all, for some the good old days were not good. Still we can agree that the social fabric of 40+ years ago was in great condition compared to 2003.

Many of us realise, through facts and statistics, that, before the advent of the Sixties, our social pathologies were identifiable and easily quarantined.

In general, Americans could speak about right and wrong, and act accordingly. What was wrong in Ohio was wrong in Georgia, and was dealt with in similar fashion.

This American consensus of yore didn't come about overnight. It was shaken-down and tested through centuries of Judeo-Christian injustice, misadventure, and reformation. Those in positions of influence were able to use this rich and refined nectar to create America. Those in unexceptional positions had full use of this same nectar.

We know that adolescent America was not heaven-on-earth. All, but fools, know that the human creature cannot create a heavenly nation. What we did have was a foundation that was not only pervasive, but dictated the parameters of individual actions.

Those who did wrong knew their actions were measured by Judeo-Christian standards, and they were ashamed of their transgressions. We were able to correct our faults because we knew a correction when we saw one.

Our regional, peculiar and perticular practices and procedures were all controled and corralled by our Biblical Standards.

I need not tell you that Bible Standards have not only been out of public schools for Forty years, but they have been out of vogue for a long time now. We have a generation deeply embedded within society that hasn't a clue when it comes to Judeo-Christian approaches to life.

To illustrate the depth of the sickness: I actually heard one author of a newly released book say that the "fuzzy thinking" engendered by taking the Bible into account has gotten us to the place we find ourselves. Here is a person who, like many of us, realizes something is wrong with society's fabric, but his conclusion is absolutely ludicrous!

This sickness not only has depth, but ramifications also. If we cannot identify the way back we will end up in a far worse state than if we had done nothing at all. If people infused with Judeo-Christian standards were able to make bad choices in social efforts, imagine what a people soaked in Secular-Socialism can do. If you have no imagination, then just read Book One of Shirer's Rise and Fall.

Nevertheless, I see some groping efforts, carried out by people scared, in the dark, and swinging their arms about. They should take note of a few laws.
