June 6, 2003 "Give the inspectors more time," and all its variations, was the zombie-like mantra parroted ad nauseum by the Left before the liberation of Iraq. Not a day passed that a Democrat didn't step before a microphone with characteristic faux alarmism and beg President Bush to allow the the Left's all-time favorite vocal group, Hans Blix and The U.N. Inspectors, an indefinite number of months to find WMD's in Iraq. If this was "The X Files," you would give Fox Mulder an indefinite number of months to search for the proof of extraterrestrial life in Iraq, because he would turn Iraq upside down and shake until he found the Truth That's Out There. But this is Hans Blix, who told a MTV audience that, global warming is the greatest threat to mankind, not bloodthirsty Muslim terrorists. This is the same group of inspectors that once employed the seditious pederast Scott Ritter. Not to mention their boss, the most corrupt organization on Earth. No, not Martha Stewart Inc. The United Nations, where Lybia heads The U.N. Commission of Human Rights, and Iraq chaired the Conference on Disarmament. But, now, with the war less than three months over, the Democrats can't clamor over each other fast enough to get to the microphone: "Where are the weapons?" "Why haven't we found weapons?" A country that was the size of California for the uninspectors - I mean U.N. inspectors - is now, suddenly, the size of a sandbox for President Bush. And he has access to a bulldozer. President Bush repeatedly predicated Operation Iraqi Freedom on: 1) ridding Saddam Insane of his WMD's so he couldn't harm us or hand them off to terrorists. 2) ousting Saddam and install a democratic government. 3) liberating the Iraqi people from the unspeakable atrocities of an evil regime. The communist liberal press knew the elimination of their beloved Saddam was, unfortunately, a forgone conclusion. They also knew that others might be horrified at Saddam's torture chambers, mass graves, and rape rooms. So they decided to make the WMD issue their WMD against the President. But, they had to go to war with him much sooner than expected. The Left's first wave of attacks would've been to blame President Bush for an unjust war that (according to the U.N. estimate) would have left "up to a half a million people killed or wounded." But, our bumbling, unintelligent President mucked it up by, instead, mounting the greatest military operation in modern history. Furious that coalition forces had reached Baghdad so quickly, and with so few causalities, liberals had to begin in earnest their "where are the weapons?" carpet bombing. For America, where 70% supported the war, the liberal hysterical-wife histrionics not only fell on deaf ears, America shouted back by giving President Bush a 72% approval rating during the war. The intensification, now, of the "why haven't we discovered weapons" caterwauling is not so coincidentally because of the Bush tax cut. The Left's rhetoric has been conveniently racheted up to implications that Bush and Tony Blair concocted a conspiracy (transatlantic, no less) to deceive the world about Saddam's weapons. The Left's "rationale," if it can be followed by anyone who doesn't have a dissociative disorder, is Bush and Blair colluded to lie about Saddam's WMD's, even though we have defectors from Saddam's weapons program; Colin Powell's presentation to the UN included wiretaps between Saddam's men saying he has them; Saddam unceremoniously kicking the inspectors out in 1998 and not allowing flyovers or unannounced visits after; Democratic leaders in the House and Senate signing a resolution, presented to President Clinton, to bomb certain Iraqi sites because of irrefutable evidence that Saddam had WMD's and a lust to use them. (The same Democratic senators who were against Operation Iraqi Freedom.) Not to mention the endless streams of U.N resolutions that were suppose to disarm Saddam, and the total discrediting of President Bush and Prime Minister Blair if they were caught in their ruse. A goal also shared by the Democrats. And what better way for Saddam to humiliate President Bush than by proving him wrong on the world stage? By opening up Iraq, allowing round- the-clock inspections of every nook and cranny, Saddam would've disgraced his most reviled enemy, President Bush, by making him a liar in the eyes of the world. Doctored 1200 page reports, missing chemical and biological munitions from the Gulf War, restricted access to all Iraqi sites, mobile biochem labs, and all the soon-to-be dead marine life in the Tigris, point to the most obvious conclusion. But facts, evidence and common sense aren't known traits of a Democrat. But liberals had to try something. To their horror, their standard tune - "Tax Cuts For the Rich" - has been tuned out, like the latest Madonna single. Bush has given $400 to families with children. People will begin to see more money in their checks starting in July. There will be more Americans not paying taxes than any other time in modern history. And, worse still, this tax cut is the Reagan tax cut that gave birth to the economic boom Bill Clifton hijacked as his own during his Reign of Shame. You knew Operation Iraqi Freedom was going brilliantly when the liberals started hemming and hawing about the now-overhyped looting of Iraqi museums. You know Bush is now winning with his tax cut because the Left is resorting to their ghost story of "Bush the Boogeyman," who steals food from poor children, and makes the middle class pay all the taxes so his rich friends won't have to. It's not a good time to be liberal. So, in the end, what happens if no weapons are found? It will be correctly credited to yet another intelligence breakdown, the direct result of this administration having to rebuild and play catch up from the eight years of the Clinton Administration neutering our intelligence community. President Bush will have to admit to faulty intelligence and heads will roll; especially at the CIA. (George Tenet.) But weapons will be found. Just like the liberals use to robotically chant: "give them time to find them." ------------ Visit LannyGrant.com or email Lanny Grant: lannygrant@aol.com Comment on this column in the forum. ------------ |
