June 3, 2003 The fundamental basis for all good and righteous law is its principle of justice and equity. Once Justice is perverted, or exchanged for something which is other than righteous Justice, the law becomes perverse. In other words, the law ceases to be lawful when it becomes ethically wretched. Unjust laws are those laws which violate the Divine, God-Given rights of law abiding individuals. Unjust laws are those man made laws which seek to enslave the very people who they were made to protect. Whenever individual life, liberty and property is violated by perverse man-made laws, a gross injustice ensues. But what constitutes "right" laws? Are laws to be judeged according to a relative standard, or an evolving standard? If so, then how can any individual be safe, if the standard of right and wrong is always shifting? and that at the whim of an immoral government? Lawful standards are to be eternal and unchangable. While the application of Law can be flexible, the Law itself cannot. The Law, then, is only good if a man will use it lawfully. God centered, just laws are the center and the fundamental fabric of any healthy society. Right laws are the basis for social order, without which the culture is doomed to fail. The Founders of the American Republic were God fearing people. In addition to being brillant lawyers and scholars they were morally pure, industrious and pious folks. They understood that for any nation to survive, it had to be built upon an enduring legal framework. Society had to be built upon a system of integrity and discretion which permeated every aspect of life down to the smallest detail. That framework was set in the Holy Scriptures. In 1765 Patrick Henry declared, "It cannot be emphasised too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religion, but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ." John Quincy Adams stated on July 4th, 1821, that "The highest glory of the American Revolution was this; it connected the indissoluble bond of the principles of civil government with the principles of Christianity." Laws are the fabric of any culture. It is the codification of the belif system of that society. If one would know of the religion of any societal order, one needs only to look at their laws. The law of the land is the religious indicator of any society. The United States has been moving steadily away from its Christian based legal moorings since 1865. The Constitution has been either re-written, misinterpreted or utterly thrown out wherever it was not convenient. The formulation of law has been moved from the Legislative branch of the government to the Judicial branch where it was never intended. Furthermore, where recent laws have been made by human legislators, they have usually been void of Divine principles, making them unjust and dangerous. Sir William Balckstone declared the persuppositional basis for all law making by stating: "These Laws, laid down by God (he was refering the the Scriptures) are the eternal immutable laws of good and evil. This law of nature dictated by God Himself, is of course superior in obligation to any other. It is binding over all the globe, in all countries, and in alltimes: no human laws are of any validity if contrary to this." Like Blackstone, Rufus Choate, a powerful Lawyer, Congressman, and U.S. Senator of the 1800's stated: "No lawyer can afford to be ignorant of the Bible." Yet, sadly, it is not only lawyers, Congressmen, Judges, and U.S. Senators who are grossly ignorant of the Biblical Organic Law, but Christian Pastors and laymen as well. While they may have some knowlegde of the Ten Commandments, they are yet unable to understand and/or use effectively the many case studies and applications of those precepts for everyday life. If the Law of God continues to be ignored, re-defined and mis-applied, I fear there will be further peril facing this nation. Rather than a destructive explosion of forces from without, it will be an implosion of forces from within. It is time to become reaquinted with our Biblical and National roots so as to arrest this downward spiral and re-establish ourselves as a people of integrity and moral character. Only then will this nation be great once again. "Righteousness exalts and Nation, but sin is a reproach to any people."
