June 1, 2003 Again, I speak about the crazy things and the stupid things going on in Congress and the White House! This tax cut which was just passed is a great, if not PERFECT example of these stupid things going on in the White House. Yes, the richest of the rich take all the money!!!! Although the average amount of money would seem to be high, think about how the rich who will save millions boost that average. Some people will get nothing. And this child credit, this is a bust as well. While the Democrats put it in that there would be a child tax cut increase, so families could get more money, the Republicans found a way to cut the poor out again. The families with incomes between $10,500 and 26,625 get, unfortunately, NOTHING. That is 11,900,000 children which will not benefit from this tax cut, or 1 our of 6 kids under 17!!! Now I am sorry but this is just plain crazy!!! Added to this, states are losing money, and fast. Most states are in debt, and the little money the Democrats worked so hard to put in is going to go nowhere. At least they tried. The states cannot do it on their own. Most have laws prohibiting the state to go into the red, which makes perfect sense. If just our country could do the same. But these states cannot just keep slicing away the money from health care or Social Security or education. Eventually they'll need to raise taxes. No way out. This will completely counteract what Bush did and our tax cut 'relief' will go NOWHERE. We could have given more money to the states so we could have a small tax cut AND the states wouldn't have to INCREASE taxes. This makes sense. What Bush and the Republicans did does not. I can never be a Republican. I can never give tax cuts to the richest of the rich and let our states crumble and our country go into debt. We need to pay attention to ourselves instead of giving all our money in 'helping' other countries. It is important to help many other countries in the world, but not to the extent where we hurt because of it. And that is exactly what happened. Hopefully we'll have the sense to dig ourselves out before it is too late. ------------ About the author: Matthew is a high school student who loves politics and life.
