Peaceful Breath
Mar 31, 2004

Take a deep breath and look around you. What do you see? Do you see blue skies and rainbows? Or do you see clouds and storms?

I am in the middle of a peaceful breath right now. . .chaos is spiraling out of control in my surroundings and I have no ability to stop the precipice I am entangled in. I have to catch myself, I have to step back from the situation and breathe. I have to stop revving up at the same pace that the situations are rushing.

When a child you love is in danger, or endangering others, you react with caution. You want to protect him, but you must also admit what the problem is and deal with it accordingly. This is not always easy. How does one separate oneself from the motherly instinct and make objective decisions that are completely in the best interest of everyone around them?

Peaceful Breath.

We are at that age where we are not only caring for our children, but worrying about our parents. They are no longer the strong capable people of yesterday, they are now in failing health and fragile. They are at greater risk of heart attack, stroke and failing mind. How does one take care of their caregiver when they are also the caregiver to younger people who so desperately need them? How does one do that 1500 miles away?

Peaceful Breath.

The men in our lives are pushing themselves harder. They are halfway into their work careers or just starting a new business where they are the boss. They have either gained more responsibility as they have climbed up the ladder; or they have separated themselves from former solid working foundations and are on their own- starting from scratch. How do we support them when their work loads keep them from home? If they are starting over, how do we function on the babysteps of the income when we were accustomed to more? How do we keep our eye on the big picture and have faith that it will all work out?

Peaceful Breath.

When our working environment is feast or famine, we must be adaptable to the roller coaster. One day you are longing for something to do, the next you are overwhelmed with many things to do and immediate deadlines. How does one keep oneself in check and not lose control in the flurry of the demand? How does one keep from making mistakes, when in a hurry you react in auto pilot and don't always read the situation correctly? How do you pull in the reigns?

Peaceful Breath.

When all of your touchstones are in situations much as your own, when their lives are busy with children and their parents and their jobs, you must find alternate ways to vent and occupy your anxiety. Drinking is not a cure. Smoking is not an option. Exercise is - well - come on. How do you focus on settling your heart and clearing your mind so you can face the next day or funnel cloud with clear vision?

Peaceful Breath.

Close your eyes and take in a deep breath. Picture the flowers at the top of the page and make your mind smell them. After all, God's scents of beauty are there to entice our minds into clarity and peace.

Take your Peaceful Breath and smell that flower. Now open your eyes and smile, your Peaceful Breath has given you new life.
