My Secret Country
Mar 31, 2004

A favored fantasy of many is one of a special place, just for them. Narnia, the 9 Kingdoms, Never Never Land are all such places. A special country, to call your own, where you would be a hero through some great feat, where you could find that part of you that you seem to have lost somewhere along the way. Who wouldn’t want something like that? But these amazing countries, it seems, are hard to find.

I live out on a large piece of property, and late at night I tend to wander in the dark, waiting for sleep or piece of mind, neither of which are forthcoming lately. The other night I was contemplating the problem of the vast shortage of magical kingdoms and countries. As I wished for a country of my own the coyotes that abound in the hills surrounding my property lifted their voices in joyful song to the moon. Dogs, frogs, even crickets followed, I even heard an owl or two. All the animals were rejoicing in the beautiful night, and I realised that, in a way, I’ve already found my secret country.

Which brings me to my question: where does one find their secret country? I found mine on a hill around midnight on a monday morning, how did you find your country?
