Online Game Review: Race To The Finish
Mar 25, 2004

Adrenaline pumping, heart, racing, this is good clean fun. Redline Rumble at www.shockwave.com is the ultimate online street racing game. Created by Richard Smith in 2002, Redline has become one of the most life like street racing games of its time.

You start out with a manual (all of the cars have a manual transmission) Chisai XS-4, the top speed of this car is only 101 mph. The races are set up so you pick the car you race against. When you beat a car it becomes yours, but even if you loose you get to keep your car.

So your first race is up, you dodge in and out of miscellaneous cars on the expressway, it is only your first race so the number of cars is limited. Along the way you might run into a couple of cars and your damage meter will increase, to fix this you have to pick up green highlighted wrenches on the road and they will lower the damage. Once you win the opponents car becomes yours and you move on to the next race.

As you win more and more the difficulty becomes greater; the number of cars on the expressway increases and also the speed of your opponent’s car. With more cars comes the need to weave your way under semi-trucks and the occasional swerve to the other side of the road.

However this is still rather easy because by the time you get to the fourth race this has become basic skill. The next problem is of course the police. The race starts out normal but then about a quarter of the way through the race a helicopter appears in front of you, and of course the only way to blow them off is to hide under a semi. If you fail to hide under the semi police cars will come, and the helicopter will start dropping tire spikes.

Once you get past the fourth race, the police either capture you or the other car wins. Nothing new happens, the cars you race against just get faster. The key to the game is to race with your worst car in the first race against the best opponent.

The only problem that we have found with this game is those annoying pop-ups, they insert in front of the game screen and this paralyzes your car until you get rid of them.

Redline Rumble is an awesome game, and if you get the chance you should check it out. Shockwave rated it 4 out of 5 stars, which is really good.

Here are some tips compliments of Mike for anyone who cares. First; your opponent’s car will never leave the screen, so no matter how far behind you are there is always time to catch up. Second; try to avoid semis by swerving into oncoming traffic, make sure you go back because eventually you will cause a collision. Three; to go under a semi slow way down, and keep up or else you will get crushed. Four; if you can not get past a cop car move rapidly back and fourth through the three lanes and you will through them off.

Some other hot online games to check out are; Bullet time fighting at www.flashpayer.com/games. In this game you play the part of a unplugged man something like Neo of the Matrix, and you fight other guys. Using a gun and your fists, combined with slow motion, and cool dodging techniques, you must beat your opponent. This game can be played one or two people at the same time. Another cool game is curveball. It is like 3D ping pong, you play against a computer and the object is to put enough curve on the ball that the PC will miss it. The third dimension effect is what makes this game so cool.
