Mar 9, 2004 John Kerry is going to challenge George Bush in becoming president of the United States. His problem is he doesn´t have as much money for campaigning as George Bush has got and therefore may lose. Let´s say John Kerry is David and George Bush is Goliath. David beat Goliath by being smarter. Here are some smart suggestions out of Europe for John Kerry to be the winner in November. 1. Remain yourself and be friendly. By saying George Bush is an incompetent leader you get the reverse affect. Say he has been a strong leader in times of need (after all, he took firm decisions and Americans appreciate that). But where did it lead to: the financial surplus the USA had, turned into a very big deficit. Unemployment rose, wars were not a success (still chaos in Iraq and where´s Osama?). Did the USA get safer after 9/11??? The answer is: George Bush lead us to the wrong side of the line. Stress that! 2. George Bush has got more financial funds available. Okay, make that part of your campaign! We Europeans often have the opinion Americans have a too big mouth, think they know everything better, are big spenders. But are Americans really like that? Present yourself as the reasonable alternative. Instead spending hundreds of millions of dollars on television commercials just say: ´No, I´m not going to participate in that rat race. We can use that money for better purposes!´ You´ll win many, many hearts!! 3. Anticipate on every mistake Bush makes when talking about whatever subject. That musn´t be too difficult. 4. Will the USA still be the land of unlimited possibilities, of human and equal rights with four more years of Bush administration? No way. Present yourself as the competent alternative for conservative, restricting policy and give concrete examples of what´s wrong with the current domestic and foreign policy (see below) 5. Make contact with important leaders in advance. UN Secretary Anan, Jaques Chirac, Gerhard Schröder. They don´t speak out loud, but will only be too glad to be released of George Bush and have a counterpart who actually wants to discuss things both ways first before taking a decision. And it shows you´re a respected leader of the Democratic part (and future president?) Just some advises out of the Netherlands. Well meant, realistic and for free. Why? Because I can´t stand politicians who only run around like headless chickens and act like talking heads where nothing comes out of it. The same goes for our prime minister, unfortunately. I´m afraid you American readers won´t be interested in him, won´t even know or recognise his name. Anyway, when Kerry wins, and the Dutch equivalent of Bush should remain in power for long, which God hopefully forbids!, I could always consider to emigrate to the USA then :-) ------------ Email Johan Peters: johan.peters@johanpeters.net Tell a friend about this site! ------------ |
