Immigration Proposal Benefits Who??
Jan 9, 2004

President Bush has proposed an immigration reform bill that would allow illegal aliens to gain resident worker status in the United States. This bill on its face seems absurd at best.

The keyword in this matter is 'illegal'; these people's only claim is that they entered this country by breaking our laws. This illegal activity is not a reason or basis to reward them in any fashion. They have crossed our sorely undermanned borders with ease, being assisted by smugglers of human cargo, and take jobs from citizens of the United States who are daily searching for work of all kinds.

Now, Mexican President Vicente Fox wants more 'rights' for his citizens who daily break our laws. He insists that they are deserving of labor rights under our laws and wants full protection for those that insist on entering our nation illegally. This demand makes me wonder if Fox is looking for a way to shun his responsibility to his own citizens, or is just looking for a handout for his oil wealthy nation.

In an article in the Washington Times, Fox is cited: "But President Vicente Fox and the others indicated the new American proposal did not meet all their goals. "We're going for more. We're going for more," he told reporters during a visit to a shelter for street children.

Fox has repeatedly urged Bush to legalize the millions of Mexicans who cross the border illegally to work in the United States. The money they send home is Mexico's second-largest source of foreign income, behind oil." 1

Fox is saying that the proceeds from his law- breaking citizens are crucial to his country's economy. This rationale does not make sense to me or other like-minded citizens of the United States. Does Fox calculate his nation's economy on the actions of lawbreaking people to balance his budget?

What's next, the marijuana and cocaine trade profits? How about a tax on the "coyotes" profits from smuggling the illegal aliens into the United States? Mr. Fox seems to want the United States to support and prop up his nation without giving anything in return. He shows no signs of restraining his citizens from breaking the laws of his northern neighbors. He just seems to want to let them have free rein to break laws with no penalties, and sit back and reap the profits.

Mexico has a vast supply of oil that is in great demand, but can't seem to spread the wealth of this natural resource among his countrymen. Where is this oil profit going? Could it be lining the pockets of corrupt border policemen?

In the last few years we in the north have seen jobs exported to the south in alarming rates under the guise of NAFTA. This agreement was supposed to have balanced out the trade among nations in the Americas. What it really has done is drain the United States of jobs and support of our economy by big corporations greedy for products made by low wageworkers. Now Bush and Fox want to drain the United States even more with legalizing aliens from Mexico and other nations and give them undeserved rights under our Constitution. When is this madness going to stop?

Recently there was a "Freedom Ride" of illegal aliens touring the United States demanding 'rights' from Congress. These overt lawbreakers were escorted by elected officials of the various states and cheered and supported by the officials of the cities and states they visited. These officials were elected to uphold the laws of the land, yet found time in their busy schedules to attend rallies in support of the lawbreakers and their supporters. These actions are clearly a dereliction of sworn duty on the part of the elected officials.

Look in any major city in the United states and you will find long lines at the unemployment offices, you will also see men standing on street corners with signs stating: "Will work for food", you will see homeless Veterans of the Armed forces of the United States. Granted, some of these people choose to be homeless and unemployed, but has any government agency done a study or survey to this effect? I think not.

Now I know that some people who read this will see it as heartless and non-caring for my fellow human beings. This is not the case, I just think we should take care of our own first, and everyone else comes second, third, fourth, etc…

I can see the need for immigration, but it has to have limits and the laws must be adhered to and enforced. If an alien wants to enter the United states to work, study, attend school or visit, let them apply like my ancestors did.

It's only fair to those of us who have to obey the laws or face the consequences
