Feb 24, 2004 I guess, in the eyes of the leaders of the Democrat party, I would be semi-qualified to have the great honor to speak with John Kerry. I served in Vietnam for 22 months, however I was never wounded, so I’m guessing that semi- qualifies me to rate a conversation with the “Great One.” Well, I was lucky enough to land an interview with the future President of the United States. Here is a transcript of that exclusive meeting. Q: Mr Kerry, what do you say to the critics who question your voting record over the years regarding military weapons? A: How dare you question my patriotism? I was wounded three times in Vietnam and I will not stand for anyone in the Republican party who says I am not patriotic. Q: Senator, what would you do differently in fighting the war on terror? A: I will not sit idly by while my Vietnam service is attacked. I was wounded in Vietnam and I am more patriotic than anyone in the Republican party who dodged the military and did not serve in Vietnam. Q: Mr Kerry, you have stated you will roll back some of the tax cuts instituted by President Bush. Exactly which cuts will you reverse? A: If Mr. Bush wants to debate me on my war record and my service to this country…bring it on! I was wounded three times in Vietnam you know! Q: You have criticized the ‘No Child Left Behind’ program. What exactly is your concern? A: I am getting sick and tired of my war record being questioned and my patriotism being attacked. I was wounded three times in Vietnam! Q: Have you decided on a running mate should you win the nomination of your party? A: While Mr. Bush was reading flight manuals I was getting wounded in the jungles of Vietnam— three times. Q: Mr. Kerry, what would you do to resolve the problems we are experiencing in Iraq? A: Look, if Mr. Bush thinks he is tougher than me, give us each an M-16 with a full clip and put us in the Everglades of Florida. The man who comes out alive is the President. I’ve taken a bullet before. I was wounded three times in Vietnam…bring it on!! Q: Mr. Kerry, do you have anything you would like to tell the American people? A: Yes, thank you. Anybody who does not have a ‘Band of Brothers’ or has not been wounded in Vietnam is not qualified to be president. In fact, anyone not wounded in Vietnam should not be in the Senate or Congress. Only wounded veterans have the right to lead this country. Anybody who did not leave their blood in Vietnam, I have three words for you—BRING IT ON!!! If this piece gets anyone’s blood boiling, hold on. If you were not in Vietnam longer than me, 22 months, you have no room to criticize me or question any statements made by me. If you did spend more than 22 months in country, and would like to take me to task on my writing…BRING IT ON! ------------ About the author: Pete Whalon has just completed a memoir on his Vietnam service.
