Saddam is Caught!!
Dec 15, 2003

Let’s hear it for the troops! We finally caught that smelly thing we knew was retched, murderous, and a general villain. Now, however, we have finally confirmed something that I had always suspected …Saddam is a COWARD. For decades he killed, tortured, maimed and raped the people of Iraq. He starved children by using the ‘Oil for Food’ money to build palaces. He wiped out entire villages with chemical weapons. Throughout all of this, he made it a point to often be seen on tape wearing a military uniform with a sidearm. Yesterday, December 13, 2003, he was found, looking like he had slept in a dumpster for a week, in a hole near his mommy. When our boys found him, he was hunkered down in the dirt, with a gun at his side. Yet he fired not a shot, neither at our troops nor at his own worthless head. Saddam Hussein is the definition of a COWARD.

Now we see the people of Iraq dancing in the streets, waving flags and shouting ‘Death to Saddam.’ On the other hand, there are already a number of news stories about Arabs in various parts of the Middle East (read: Syria, Palestine, etc.) who have expressed disappointment that it was the Americans who caught him. Honestly, I expect such sentiment from some in that part of the world. However, I was extremely disappointed today when I heard much the same from NPR.

Let me say that I am in no way surprised, only disappointed. NPR is funded by its, as they say, ‘members’…and me, since my taxes support it. I expect (unrealistically) that, as citizens of this great country, they would support the US once in a while. So what did I hear at 10:45 on the morning that we got the news of Saddam’s capture? I heard Ivan Watson reporting from Baghdad. He was telling us that “a handful” of spontaneous celebrations were breaking out here and there (but, he stressed, “only a handful” and they were "sporadic"). He was quick, however, to point out that he had personally observed “numerous” Iraqis hanging their heads, obviously feeling shame that it was the Americans who caught him, and that a powerful ‘leader’ had come to such a disgraceful end. As I write this, I am flipping back and forth between FOX News and CNN (yes, the network that covered up Saddam’s atrocities because to do otherwise would have jeopardized their access to ‘news’), and I see Iraqis celebrating in the streets. Which do you think is more accurate?

This is yet another example illustrating the painfully obvious but oft overlooked fact that no matter what we do there are some people who will always be anti-American and we will never make them happy. Those people exist all over the world and there sometimes seems to be very little we can do to change that. However, as the President continues to lead us in the War on Terror we will continue show the world that the American People and our government are interested not in conquest, but rather spreading freedom and prosperity to the oppressed peoples of the world.

God Bless Our Troops.

God Bless America.
