Sept. 29, 2004 Hello! My name is Matthew Lytle, and this is my first column for Useless Knowledge, so please bare with me. Right now I can tell you that you probably won't be reading that many columns from me about politics, or anything like that. I apologize for that, but I'm not that "in to" politics. I should be, but I'm not. Anyway, let's get down to business... I hear so many people talk bad about professional wrestling. "It's fake, it's stupid, it's a soap opera." Well, I have been trained to be a pro wrestler, and I am friends with a few, and I'll tell you what, it may be pre-determined, but it hurts! The ring, isn't as soft as it looks. It's hard. It hurts. I mean, football players wear pads. Why don't those same people talk about how football players are wimpy because they wear pads. No disrespect towards football. I like football. But I think that people should give credit where credit is due. Back in the day, professional wrestling, basically, was like amateur wrestling. They fought to pin each other to the mat. I admit, now wrestling is getting a little out of hand, and a little stupid. I've been a fan my entire life, and I love watching it. But, now you can't let kids watch wrestling. They have all these inappropriate angles going on, that it's ridiculous. And the funny thing is, I have a website where I talk about wrestling, and most of my columns are negative. I can't help it. It's like the WWE doesn't know what the fans want. Either that, or they just don't want to give it to us. I hate to bad mouth it right now, especially because this column is supposed to be more positive about the sport than negative, but that's just how I feel. I'm not sure how many of you are wrestling fans, but if you remember, Steve Austin wrestled Owen Hart, and got dropped on his head. He couldn't move for about three or four minutes. But he finished the match. Just like Mankind. Mankind faced Undertaker in a "Hell in a Cell" match. Makind was thrown off the top of the cage, and knocked unconscious. He also dislocated his shoulder, and bruised his kidney, but he finished the match. In my opinion, if Michael Vick or Ray Lewis got knocked unconscious, dislocated their shoulder, and bruised their kidney, they'd probably leave, and let their team go ahead. They wouldn't finish the game! That's what I'm saying! Professional wrestlers are tough as nails! But all anyone ever wants to say about them, is that their a phony, or a fake. Please! Look at the athleticism, and the toughness. I'm not saying to love pro wrestling, and watch it every night, I'm just saying, they deserve a lot more respect than what they are given. I doubt that I will convince that many, but I can at least write my opinions, and maybe influence two or three people. If I do that, I'll be happy. Thank you for reading. ------------ About the author Matthew Lytle: I started writing when I was very young. I use to write stories all the time. They weren't that long, and maybe they didn't make that much sense, but I loved to write. I quit writing for a while, but started again in high school. I ended up writing a story about drunk driving, and had my wife read it (who was just my friend back then). She almost cried when she read it. That made me realize, that I did alright with my writing. That's when I began to write more. I joined a creative writing class in high school, and wrote a story that I called High School Sweetheart. I spent most of my time (even in classes), writing this story. It turned out very well, and I got an A on it! Right now I have a couple of stories that aren't quite finished, but are turning out alright. I also try to do some poetry on the side, and I have a couple of other projects that are in the works. Now I plan on finding an agent, and getting some of my work published. My goal is to write a book, and get on the New York Times Best Seller List. I know that it's a lot to do, but I'm going to try. That's about the best I can do! http://www.geocities.com/matthew_j_lytle Email: KalebsDaddy@msn.com Tell a friend about this site! ------------ |
