Sept. 28, 2004 For years, cartoons have been the entertainment for the youth. When I was a young boy I was watching cartoons such as “the Transformers”, “G.I.Joe”, “the Superfriends”, “Ewoks”, “Ghostbusters”, and the classic “Bugs Bunny” cartoons. When I was a teenager, the cartoons varied from “X-men” to “Batman” to “Spider-Man” and “Mortal Kombat”. Now as a 24 year old college student I’m still watching cartoons, I own all of the old Transformers cartoons on DVD; however, I mostly enjoy “adult” cartoons. Adult cartoons are usually cartoons only with an adult twist. You can check out some of the cartoons on “Cartoon Network” around eleven o’clock. By eleven o’clock Cartoon Network turns into “Adult Swim”. I was first introduced to Adult Swim around four years ago, but by then they had mostly original programming like “Space Ghost”, “Aqua Teen Hunger Force”, “Brak”, and “Sealab 2021". All of the programming was hilarious; they presented comedy that only those born in the 70's and 80's could figure out; however, when explained others will laugh as well. Today, Adult Swim has expanded with “Family Guy” and “Futurama”. Family Guy is probably the best show Adult Swim has, and they really made that show come back from the ashes like the Phoenix. Some years ago FOX decided to pull the plug on Family Guy because of the ratings; however, the show won Emmy’s and had a cult fan following. However, it was Adult Swim that brought the show to life. I remember watching Adult Swim and they advertised Family Guy, I was ecstatic, because I remember that show and how funny it was. I remember how Stewart, the infant boy, would make plans to kill his mother and rule the world, yet he sounded like Alex DeLarge or Hannibal Lector when he talked. I remember the Leisure Suit Larry wannabe, Quagmire, would always hit on Lois and say, “Heh, alriiiight”. Cartoons are getting better and better for adults, with other cartoons as South Park and of course the classic Simpsons, it seems that there is a bright future from adult toons. I just hope that a lot of production companies take notice in this, because the world needs more adult cartoons. ------------ About the author Eric Schomburg: Visit http://www.geocities.com/schomburg2002.
