Sept. 21, 2004 Recently, there was anguish and wailing in my fatherland when almost fifty able-bodied men died in a kerosine explosion when they were secretly scooping oil into a container from a government owned pipeline. Those men were among thousands of souls that involve themselves in puncturing government pipelines secretly just to make quick money. Ask this people, they will tell you they are doing it because of poverty. What a useless excuse to lose one's life. Looking at the remains of their charred bodies, I couldnot help but ask God why this things are happening. Not long ago, some set of people who practice this same act met their untimely death in the same condition. Still, people who care less for their souls still thread this dangerous path. Amazingly these culprits or what should i call them, are able bodied men with age ranging from eighteen to sixty. It's kinda funny. Yet with all this happenings, some people are still doing it in some remote villages. Forgeting the facts that they are exposing innocent victims to dangerous and various diseases. If life is not sweet for them and they are tired of living, they should remember those innocents victims whose houses are burnt, properties destroyed and even those who innocently lose their lives. Live is too precious to be destroy and too fragile to handle. I rest my case. ------------ About the author Olamide Ayeni: A 21 year old female.
